The Royal Canadian Army Service Corps
The Anniversary Page
Although our 100 anniversary is not until the year 2001, we decided that a special section of the Home Page should be set aside for such an important date in our CORPS HISTORY.
This section will carry all the news from the National and Regional Executive Committees, pertaining to their planning of this important date in our history. We know that the event is four years down the road and some of us are getting long in the tooth and might not be around to enjoy it. However that is no reason for not being in on the planning of such an important event.
To kick off this section and to add a little colour, I selected a few pictures and the Corps Regimental Marching Song, along with the sheet music. Those graphics were taken from a beautiful little book that LCol "Spike" Hennessy sent me. The painting above the song, is a painting by -- Harry Payne, Titled "The Military Train" (1856--1869) The second graphic is the Music sheet, "Wait for the Wagon." The final graphic, is a picture of our 50th Anniversary. It shows the RCASC leading the "Warriors Day" parade at the CNE. It shows the "Drive Past" of the reviewing stand. The motorcycle outriders are, Cpl Bob Walco on the left and yours truly on the right.
Wait For the Wagon
Will you come along with me, my Phillis dear, too yon blue mountain free
Where the blossoms smell the sweetest, come rove along with me,
It's ev'ry Sunday morning, when I am by your side,
We'll jump into the wagon, and all take a ride,
Wait for the wagon,
Wait for the wagon,
Wait for the wagon,
And we'll all take a ride.
Where the river runs like silver, and the birds they sing so sweet,
I have a cabin Phillis and something good to eat,
Come listen to my story, it will relieve my heart,
So jump into the wagon, and off we'll start,
Wait for the wagon,
Wait for the wagon,
Wait for the wagon,
And we'll all take a ride.
Do you believe my Phillis dear, old Mike with all his wealth,
Can make you half as happy, as I with youth and health?
We'll have a little farm, a horse, a pig and cow,
And you will mind the dairy, while I will guide the plow,
Wait for the wagon,
Wait for the wagon,
Wait for the wagon,
And we'll all take a ride.
Your lips are red as poppies, your hair so slick and neat,
All braided up with dahlias, and hollyhocks so sweet,
It's every Sunday morning, when I am by your side,
We'll jump into the wagon, and all take a ride,
Wait for the wagon,
Wait for the wagon,
Wait for the wagon,
And we'll all take a ride.
Together, on life's journey, we'll travel till we stop,
And if we have trouble, we'll reach the happy top,
Then come with me sweet Phillis, my dear, my lovely bride,
We'll jump into the wagon, and all take a ride,
Wait for the wagon,
Wait for the wagon,
Wait for the wagon,
And we'll all take a ride.
