Cleaning 1qt Canteen
« on: July 31, 2005, 15:49:07 »
Hey all,
Just a quick question regarding the 1qt canteen. Mine's got a really funky smell coming out of it, and dishsoap didn't do a thing, even soaking over night. Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Pinky

Place it inverted in a dishwasher for many cycles (like over a week), as I have had the same funky smell in a few over the years. Also try boiling water repeatedly then let it sit with a teaspoon of vanilla extract over night mixed in, shake often and repeat that too.

Cheers,

Mix some hot water with bleach, about 15:1, let it soak overnight, rinse well with lots of hot water. Repeat as necessary.

Use it when on course but other wise switch to a Nalgene bottle or Camelbak.  ;)

Nalgene bottle eh? Not a bad idea. I suppose i'll have to cam mine up some, seeing as how right now it's oh-so-tactical neon yellow  ;D

Problem solved, I replaced the canteen pouch with the 2nd c9 pouch and shoved my camelbak bladder in there. Fits like a charm  :D

That's a good point (then again, it seems that all you make are good points Kevin). Where, may I ask, do you keep you Nalgenes? In an assault pack?

You can put them into your second pouch where your 2 qt will normally be.  There are good nalgene pouches out there as well.  Not quite as easy to attach to the TV but once they are on they work ok.
