RIP, Seamen.

Most people don't realize that docking/undocking a ship is one of the most dangerous moment in the life of  ships. As water flows in or out, the actual balance of the ship constantly varies and must be counteracted with application of counter forces throughout. It only takes small slip or snag for a catastrophe to occur.
