Title: Australian Defence Medal: New Medal for Australian Military Forces
Post by: Carcharodon Carcharias on October 03, 2004, 17:04:02
Well, back in June of this year, its been decided that a new medal will be struck called the Australian Defence Medal.

It is also known  as The Defence of Australia Medal.

Note the similiarity to the CF's CD ribbon.

This is NOT a long service medal, and requires a mininum of 6 yrs service, plus other criteria. Open to the Regulars and Active Reserve in Army, RAN and RAAF.

The Australian long service medal here is given here after 15yrs service, not 12 like the CF. Clasps every 5yrs thereafter.

First 'issues' of the new medal will be June of 05.

Wanna know more? Go to www.google.com and do a search for 'Australian Defence Medal'

Cheers,

Wes
