Time Off / Pay / advanced training
« on: May 18, 2017, 12:39:15 »
Hello,

I was just wondering how much time off you are given in CAF , I understand you get 20 vacation days off when you start but have also read you get a few weeks off in the summer , xmas and spring above your 20 vacation days .. is this true?

And for pay do you get a raise each year? or is it performance based? if you are a hard worker and apply yourself will you get pay raises for frequently? How exactly do you advance up the ladder in pay?

Sorry and one more question .. I am joining as infantry .. what are the chances of getting the opportunity for advanced training like CQC and mountain warfare ect ect after basic are finished of course ... is it again only those chosen who have the most work ethic? is like like a job posting you have to apply for to get the opportunity to be involved in the training ?

Thank you very much

In a nutshell, leave works like this:

1)  Upon enrollment in the Regular Force, you get 20 days of Annual Leave. This increases to 25 days after five years of service and 30 days after 28 years of service.

2)  Annual Leave is reckoned in working days (i.e. weekends and statutory holidays are extra - e.g. if you take two weeks off that includes a holiday, it will cost you nine days of Annual Leave).

3)  You get the ten federal statutory holidays plus one provincial holiday off depending on where you're working (i.e. if your place of duty is in Quebec, you get 24 June off, but in the other provinces, you get the first Monday in August).  The Family, Heritage, etc Days in some provinces are not recognized.

4)  Everybody gets two days Special Leave at Christmas/New Year's.

5)  There are various other types of Special Leave, but they are situation dependent and not everybody gets them all the time.

6)  Commanding Officers have the ability to grant two days of Short Leave per calendar month for a variety of reasons (the policy is quite flexible), but it largely depends on the culture of the unit and mindset of the CO.

7)  Summer/Christmas vacation periods are largely covered by a combination of the above.  Personnel under training can be granted additional time (provided Annual Leave is exhausted) in circumstances where their schools are closed.

Pay is based on rank.  Within each rank level, there are a number of "Incentive Levels."  In effect, every year on anniversary of your enrollment/promotion your pay automatically increases to the next Incentive Level - unless you REALLY screw up (this is EXTREMELY rare).  Once you reach the last Incentive Level at a given rank, your pay remains the same until you are promoted to the next rank.
Sure, apes read Nietzsche.  They just don't understand it.
