    Ottawa Remembrance Day

The Legion on Taylor Creek Drive in Orleans usually has a ceremony.  Outside of the Legion, there is a memorial where a parade takes place.  Usually, it's the local reserve CER unit that does the parade.

Reserve DL training for public servants

I have no doubt that it happens.  I'm sure it's a regulation that gets zero attention and is not monitored for compliance.  So good for those who make the effort and get their courses done. From a PS point of view, you're allowed to exercise that benefit.  On the other hand, DND restricts a...

Reserve DL training for public servants

I always thought this part of the regulation basically guaranteed that any federal public servant would never be able to take any training while taking advantage of LWP.  For myself, and I suspect most of us in the same situation, never really get an opportunity for training that isn't a career...

    Reserve Pension- Merged

If I understand your question correctly, my answer is that you need to be fully vested into the Pension to receive its full benefit.  In the case of Part 1.I, the time period to become fully vested in the Pension is 2 years.  So, if you release before you reach the 2 year, fully-vested...

    Reserve Pension- Merged

This is a significant issue that everyone will have to deal with and it's something that I did not fully appreciate when I started this process.  Luckily for me, it will all work out.  But for those with a lot service to buyback, one could find themselves paying more than anticipated due to some...

    Reserve Pension- Merged

I can't fully speak to this.  I elected to make a lump sum payment so I only needed to make the minimum $5 per month payments (for insurance reasons).  Once they had received my void cheque, the payments started quickly.  As for starting to payback what is owed, I can't say as I didn't do it...

    Reserve Pension- Merged

Thanks for the tip.  I didn't know I would get some info like that.

    Reserve Pension- Merged

What's a few more months anyway  ;D The exact amount I was quoted is a little less than the original estimate I had done a couple of years ago.  I originally thought that the difference was based on the $5 monthly payments I have been making.  Then I recalled DAP's comment about how a refund...

    Reserve Pension- Merged

Thanks. In other news, I was finally contacted by pension services today with a 'firm' buyback figure and that this process will be finalized soon.  There are still a couple of steps left such as coughing up some money and a pension adjustment with the CRA.  Hopefully it won't take forever...

    Reserve Pension- Merged

CountDC, Unless the CANFORGEN is too long, can you post it in its entirety for us?  I'm out now and won't be able to access it the old fashioned way.  I'd like to see the whole document before I contact my compensation adviser.

    Reserve Pension- Merged

I get home tonight to find a letter from DMPAP waiting for me.  I don't know what DMPAP stands for but I got excited that my pension buyback is finally starting to move.  I was wrong.  It was a letter regarding the LDA, explaining that I may be eligible for the allowance, and that since I have...

Why we pay Reservists what we do (Including Reg v.s. Cl B v.s. Cl C pay, and Double-Dippin')

For clarity, I assume we're only talking about pers who were in the CF.  Any federal public servant can obviously leave government at any time but will only be able to draw a pension benefit until much later in life (I think it's 55 - I should George's advise and take that retirement seminar). ...

    Reserve Pension- Merged

That little nuggett you posted is interesting.  I know of two members from my unit who are vested in Part I.1 only to be told that they couldn't contribute to the PSSA plan upon accepting a position with the PS.  Their choice: release from the reserves or do not participate in the PSSA plan. ...
