    Met Tech Info?

We restructured the trade back in the middle of Afghanistan, and built a single world wide briefing/deployment centre... The idea was to have one base that would support all deployed ops, while also doing most of the routine domestic support. It meant we could pool our fit people in one...

    Met Tech Info?

I believe the next course is in January or July of next year. My current position isn't in the training realm, so I'm not up to date on the latest information. As a general rule Met Tech courses start in January, and July, as the course is about 5.5 months long. OJT is normally in Gagetown...

    CFB Cold Lake Thread- Merged

Maybe, I'm not 100% familiar with all trades, but the general rule is the CM cuts the message and posts the member. Unless the RCAF has come up with a policy that bypasses DGMC, I'm pretty sure they function under the same general system the rest of the CAF does. At the pointy end it may seem...

    CFB Cold Lake Thread- Merged

For a normal posting I'd agee, but the local rep isn't the one that will be speaking with a member rejoining. It's the recruiting centre, and a CM that handle a member getting back in as far as I'm aware. My contact in the CM world just left the job a week ago, but based on our last discussion...

    CFB Cold Lake Thread- Merged

Not 100% accurate. Local staff may attach post people between units, but the CM is the one who posts people to specific positions. Every in-trade position is managed by the MC, and I believe upon rejoining the CM is the one that designates the position number/position. Local staff may do an AP...

    Met Tech Info?

I'm not sure of that's a compliment, or a dig at everyone else lol. It was a pleasure working for/with you, a definite stand-out experience in my career. Sailing as a Snr Met Tech was one of the best experiences of my career, and one of the few times that it felt like my training and...

    Met Tech Info?

I'm still a Met Tech, and willing to chat about the trade. I'm currently out of town on an inspection trip, but I'm willing to reply to posts, or you can PM me to arrange a time to chat.

Joe Biden gives up on the war in Afghanistan, leaving a weak ally

To be fair, we were paying the Taliban when we were actively fighting them too...

Sexual Misconduct Allegations in The CAF

Having spent some time in 2 Mess during WUPS, I found it was the people that were already up and on watch that were the issue. If on watch NESOP S3 Bloggins comes charging out of the OPS Room at Emergency Stations into 2 mess, on the way to dress in the FWD SB, there isn't a lot of time to be up...

Sexual Misconduct Allegations in The CAF

It was a Lt(N) on REG, so I'd assume somewhere between 2Lt and Capt. It doesn't make much sense to have them at the unit level if they are just as senior as the people they are advising, and just as unapproachable as the Command Team. Then again, it is the CAF, so anything from LCols-BGens all...

Sexual Misconduct Allegations in The CAF

I was a bit reluctant about accepting the idea at first, but after reading the REG example I think I get it. It is useful to have someone not at 20+ years in that has a clear line of communication with the command team. With the examples brought in REG, the FWD Section Base, and dockyard...

B.C. premier says he will lobby PM to enlist military for wildfire duty

Just what an understaffed, and struggling CAF needs... a minimum wage thankless job in the middle of nowhere. That will drive recruitment, and retention for sure. While I understand the BC government's request, I think it would be a bad move for the CAF to get into it beyond a year or two at...

Remains found at Kamloops residential school 'not an isolated incident,' Indigenous experts and leaders warn

Maybe I missed it, but where is the PM's message decrying the destruction of churches? If it were synagogues, mosques, temples, or any other religious group being targeted, we'd have seen multiple federal government ministers telling us to not judge all (insert X) by the actions of those in the...

    Survey on Future Remembrance Ceremonies

    1) That's a pretty broad brush you are painting with. I'm sure the average Legion member who is former/current police is there entirely for the purpose of drug fueled raves with no local "ruffians" present, then add in the local "Coast Guard" and it's essentially a hive of scum and villainy...

    Survey on Future Remembrance Ceremonies

I'm in agreement with Underway on this one, Remembrance Day is a personal day of reflection. I think the ceremonies should stick to honouring the dead, but the day as a whole is about more than that. I think most of us here have a personal connection to either family, friends, or co-workers...

A "Why" Dress Thread split from OCdt Speaks at Freedom Rally

I'm a firm believer in the RCAF way of doing dress, dress comfortably. If it's hot in January, don't wear a coat. If it's cold in July, wear a coat. If you're hot, and the person beside you is cold, then each of you can layer up or down to suit your comfort.

A "Why" Dress Thread split from OCdt Speaks at Freedom Rally

My personal favourite from the RCN occurred while doing a full day closed up for RAS during RAS WUPS in the West Coast Firing Area. The dress was NCD without rain gear or weather jackets, because the people in the dump would be too warm working in them. So I stood in the wind and spray at the...

Initiatives launched to retain and increase RCAF personnel experience levels

It is a job... Maybe one of our major stumbling blocks when it comes to recruitment and retention is pretending it's a some holy calling. Whether it's a "job", or a "calling" doesn't determine one's aptitude. Every trade struggles with people who barely pass the training, and are inept at the...

Initiatives launched to retain and increase RCAF personnel experience levels

Agreed on Para 1, it's better to keep a member over the long term than have them release out of frustration due to someone else's "plan" for their career. As for CMs, I was shocked when I got to Ottawa to learn just how much they deal with, and how burnt out they can get after a couple of...

Survey on National Monument to Canada's Mission in Afghanistan

You'd think that with a perfect example of what a war memorial should look like just down the street, they would have been able to come up with something appropriate. Of the choices, the Stimson one is the best in my opinion, but the tacvest and helmet need fixing.
