Air Combat Systems Officer ( ACSO )

Dimsun, That’s innacurate, once wing qualified, new ACSOs are posted to Sqn flying line numbers, hence why they are entitled to aircrew allowance without being MOAT qualified. We constantly have this problem with the AES Ops, were a new member comes in, then a qualified member must be posted...

Air Combat Systems Officer ( ACSO )

When you’re ACSO Wing qualifies and posted into a flying line number. Your aircrew start. A lot of us got an aircrew backpay because the RCAF didn’t follow the policy. We used to get aircrew allowance once OFP, but that changed last year I believe.

Naval Combat Dress (NCD) uniform [Merged]

IMO if the RCN want to add patches, badges or whatever, I say good for them. If they can recruit more people because of it, even better. Some young kid will probably see the uniform and might be the trigger for joining the Navy. Who knows?

    AESOp ( MOC 081)

My understanding is AES Op will start filling the FWSAR Sqns in batches of 8 per courses or so. Hence why we’re going with courses of 18 students.

    AESOp ( MOC 081)

33 new positions will be added to the SAR Sqns.

    CANFORGEN 168/18 (aka PATCHFORGEN) [Merged]

Sadly the CA is not the only element switching patches very 5 years. From the brief we got, the RCAF is reverting back to the “only green” patches for the flight suits. The Div order should be release shortly. Here’s to another $40 of patches for the uniform.

The Great Toque and Glove Conundrum, Solved

Not sure about the CA but the RCAF wear the fleece blue tuque with operational dress. The older light blue scratchy one is for DEU only.

    AESOp ( MOC 081)

The course in Winnipeg is BAQC. As mentioned above, it’s now one course of approximately 6 months. Before you start BAQC, you’ll probably complete a few courses (Land survival, AMT, Sea Survival and BEW).

CAF Cannabis Use 2018- DAOD 9004-1

It depends on which province the base is located. For example in Winnipeg they are looking at building separate smoking area for cannabis consumers.

    RCAF aircrew shortage

Yes they are MCpls and even Sgts by now. IMO they are young, keen, and eager to change the trade for the better.

    RCAF aircrew shortage

My top three that IMO would improve the issue: 1. Money for A/C modernization and infrastructure; 2. Get rid of the non sense secondary duties; and 3. Introduce retention bonuses.

    RCAF aircrew shortage

When we recruit direct entry AES Op, once BMQ completed, we post them to the nearest base/Wing/armoury to their home. They are on TD while attending BAQC here in Winnipeg. Once they graduate, they get posted to one of their choices.

    RCAF aircrew shortage

We crunched the numbers and we need at least 45 new AES Ops per year out of 402 in order to keep up with the attrition and the new upcoming positions.

    RCAF aircrew shortage

Right now we are mandated to graduate approx 24 AES Ops per year. We could do more for sure. They are COAs to use parallel training via private contractors.

    RCAF aircrew shortage

Yes recruitment needs fixing. For example they’re only recruiting 9 direct entry AESOP this fiscal year, despite the fact our trade is in significant demand. I like VOTs, but robbing Peter to pay Paul doesn’t help. Our training system was designed on the 90s numbers. For example here at 402, our...

    RCAF aircrew shortage

I was referring to the outside work weekend tasking, show the uniform sort of thing. I can only speak from my experience, but I've noticed a significant increase in those sort of tasking and secondary duties. For example just to name one; originally what had started as a simple RCAF run to...

    RCAF aircrew shortage

Imo cutting the excess of secondary duties and the ever increasing amount of dog and pony show tasking would be a good start.
