    AMIRS Contract Awarded

See link: http://www.news.gc.ca/cfmx/view/en/index.jsp?articleid=288829 I'm assuming this is the Pantera? The release doesn't name it.

429 Sqn to become new C-17 Squadron

    Thanks, that's good to know.

429 Sqn to become new C-17 Squadron

On a slightly different topic, I was wondering if anyone in the know could tell us if the first C-17 is still on schedule to be delivered in August. I read in the Globe and Mail that the requirement for DND and Canadian companies to comply with ITAR is slowing down procurement programs, even for...

    MLVW Replacment?

Are the SEV kits easily installed and removed? If so, maybe it is possible they plan to keep most vehicles in a basic cargo configuration, and install kits only when needed.

    MLVW Replacment?

For those who are interested, here is the MSVS project web site which came online recently: http://www.forces.gc.ca/admmat/dgmpd/msvs/index_e.asp Also, the LOI for the MilCOTS portion of the project was released on MERX today...

Will the C17s Make it to the Ramp?

The Liberal gov't didn't select the Chinook explicitly, but the requirement for the "medium-to-heavy lift helicopter" mentioned in the 2005 DPS and subsequent budget was supposedly crafted with the Chinnok in mind.

    Redesignation of the Kingston class???

Sweden, Germany, and Switzerland all come to mind. Switzerland builds ships? They're landlocked!

    More M777's on the way

Will the C17s Make it to the Ramp?

And also don't forget the requirement by the contractors to spend $1 in Canada for every $1 of these equipment purchases. To snatch that kind of business away from a region would give any politician pause for thought.

Will the C17s Make it to the Ramp?

If the Liberals came into power, the C-17 purchase is the only big-ticket item I can realistically see them walking away from. But if the contract is signed before that, I think they would just go along with it. Spend no money to buy it, but quietly maintain the capability. Continuing to...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Yes, Australia builds locally, with heavy support from the designer. Hopefully, the experience & guidance of the foreign design companies can help to offset the lack of experience of the Canadian builders. Flensburger has designed & built Ro-Ro ships and German Navy AOR's. On the other team...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

I'm surprised nobody has commented on this yet: http://www.news.gc.ca/cfmx/view/en/index.jsp?articleid=258089 This means the teams headed by Irving & BAE are now out of the running. I don't know the BAE JSS site (if any), but here is the Irving (JSS Canada) site: http://www.jsscanada.com/...

    The 2006 Tory Budget

And yes, the $5.3 billion is on top of the $12.8b, 5-yr increase in the previous (Lib) budget. The capital portion of this can be spent earlier than projected if, and only if, departments and Cabinet get their acts together and allow effective project approval to be accelerated. In my view, the...

    The 2006 Tory Budget

It may not be as bad as it looks. Note that the budget documents say "budgetary basis" - i.e. accrual basis, not cash basis. The outlays for new equipment purchases would be over and above this. Cash is forwarded for new equipment purchases by Treasury Board when the project is given effective...

REPORT: Hercs Have 3 Years Left In 'Em?

True, but since FWSAR is supposed to replace the 10 E's used for SAR plus the Buffalo, the 13 planes replaced by this new project (as stated by the press release) must be the remaining 9 E's + the 4 oldest H's (from the mid-70's). This would leave 9 H's in service. Gen. Hillier alluded to this...

Sudden questions regarding LAV III and roll-overs

CTV NewsNet just reported some additional info....apparently, the LAV had to violently swerve to avoid another vehicle that was approaching late at night on the highway without its lights on. This apparently some preliminary info offered by the army.  Unfortunately I can't link to the story...
