    Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

Just compare with the USN FFG(X) programme in terms of costs and schedule by using actually existing platforms (let's admit that the type 26 has enhanced capabilities, but ...so much?) : "We started closer to the $950 (million); we are trending to very close to the $800 now."...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Would it mean that a third package should be in place for Davie to enter the NSS? Then the package might be or seems to be the "ice-breakers" pack. In such a case ... who would be in charge of the MCDVs replacement? If considered as combatants, then Irving would be the one, but they won't have...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Excuse me to post this link. Will not be nice to anybody, and I particularly believe it's clearly biased against CSC offseting some aspects as job creation, technology transfers and the effort to level the shipbuilding cycles. Yet the article has some reason...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

From my point of view the best part of PM's statement yesterday is the open door for Davie to come into the NSS. With both Seaspan and Irving busy on their allocated vessels for two or three decades, I dare to foresee the replacement for MCDVs would come from Davie. That might be done within the...

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

https://www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca/app-acq/amd-dp/mer-sea/sncn-nss/projets-projects-eng.html#s18 Official NSS web already updated. ☺ Seems to have moved from 5 future Offshore Patrol Vessels (for the CCG), and 5 future Medium-Endurance Multi-Tasked Vessels (for the CCG). to... 2 AOPs (built at...

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

Someone proposed in this forum to use that gap (or future ones) to build new generation MCDVs, myself proposed two oceanic tug & rescue vessels (in line with under-production USN Navajo class). What worries me most is that within 3-4 years sight, by the time the 7th AOPS would start to be built...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

I'm not a professional, but would dare to think that the 3-2 tugs per E-W coast might be related too to the coastline n. miles and square n.miles  to be serviced. Am I wrong?

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

AFAIK Griffon is not navalized, as it lacks: - landing gear ready for maritime ops. - relevant corrosion protection coatings - floating system in the rear sponsons - foldable rotor Instead, for a similar range and MTOW, i would suggest AW159 wildcat, which is already developed and can perform...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Here i am posting the open part of a longer article about the Irving family, published in France, is NB a feudal province more than a liberal one? For your consideration, as far as the NSS is linked to them. https://www.monde-diplomatique.fr/2019/04/DENEAULT/59710  (french)...

Report on activities of Canadian O-boats both Cold War and afterwards.

A little bit more about subs. Hope you enjoy the reading. https://www.casematepublishing.co.uk/blog/2018/01/23/how-do-submarines-deal-with-sewage/ The uninformed citizen may imagine that men in submarines worry about sinking or the morality of launching nuclear weapons. Nothing could be...

Report on activities of Canadian O-boats both Cold War and afterwards.

Interesting indeed. Let me introduce a question... any of you would imagine that the first military submarine was invented in Spain as far as in 1888? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_submarine_Peral "The first fully capable military submarine, she was launched 8 September 1888. She...

Oceanic tug & rescue vessel. A good option for production gaps?

http://nextnavy.com/surface-navy-dont-defund-the-salvage-and-tug-fleet/ "When funded, the Navy’s fleet of eight salvage and rescue ships are always busy, and have, (...) been at sea, routinely chalking up type/class averages of more than 30% of the year at sea (it’s a rate most combatants would...

Oceanic tug & rescue vessel. A good option for production gaps?

I have read here about the progress on the new Navajo class at the US Navy. https://mobile.navaltoday.com/2019/03/13/us-navys-new-class-of-towing-and-salvage-ships-honors-navajo-people/ It is relatively cheap, only two or three units might be required for service, engineering would be simple...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

hahaha... I thought you meant that, but the  thread went on into another track... Well, Davie might Canadize it, if desired, by removing two of those RAS (Replenishment at sea) rigs. I guess  :)

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

There are rumours in Spain about building a third AOR after the two being built for the RAN  (Australia). Then they might be already trying to sell Patiño, which is already known to RCN. A good chance for Davie to canadize it (a candidate for Obelix), should the government agree to the 2+2 JSS idea.

    Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

Of course there are other means for ASW , but why refuse to install some torpedo tubes as well? As cited in the article Hobarts do have them but Type 45 destroyers don't. I am of the opinion that  being they onboard, the CSCs would benefit from a wider set of tools available.

    Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

Back to weaponry ... seems like type 26-B will need some reserve of VLS cells for VLA torpedoes, since tubes are not fitted. I am astonished , wasn't its main role to be an antisubmarine frigate?  ::) https://www.savetheroyalnavy.org/mtls-and-asroc-killing-the-submarine-without-a-helicopter/

    Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

Probably you're right, I may have messed CMS with fire-control... for me (not a professional on that field) it's all "software". And probably I am again wrong with this last sentence  ::) ;D In reply to C-Pook, I have not seen the bids, but would bet that Navantia-Saab had offered systems ready...
