The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

I'll start be again saying that I'm on team F-35. Get all 88 (I wish it was more), BUT I stand by my opinion that (beyond the logistical and training burden) a split fleet of say 65 x F-35's and 65 x Gripens wouldn't be the end-of-the-World scenario operationally that some seem to suggest...

    Pipelines, energy and natural resources

Time to start buying up cheap Alberta oil to top up our strategic reserves (and count is as part of our 1.5% defence-related spending)

And another example of the growing use of lawfare south of the border... Pentagon threatens to recall Sen. Mark Kelly to military service for court martial in wake of illegal orders video

    Trump administration 2024-2028

Is it in the interest of the US to see a bunch of low cost oil hitting the market? Won't that drive down prices and hurt domestic US producers?

    Informing the Army’s Future Structure

My latest ponderings have me envisioning something like this: One Reg Force Mechanized Division with two Brigades (1 x Tank and 2 x Mechanized Battalions in each) with a supporting Fires Brigade. The personnel from the two remaining Mech Battalions and the 3rd Armoured and Artillery Regts...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Would that matter if the CDC's are ice strengthened as planned? AOPS and CDC's in Quebec?

    Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

I get it. The CAF has manning issues all around but if we use the excuse that our current personnel situation prevents us from planning for our future personnel needs then I guess it's useless to think about modernizing our military at all.

Why when I see CARB Brigade do I think of this?

Canada should join the (nuclear) big leagues

Not every means of delivery is stealthy which could impact the potential to retaliate - i.e. potentially reduced deterrence effect of Israeli nukes

    Replacing the Subs

Duh...one of the drawbacks of being a "forward" thinker...

    Replacing the Subs

My understanding is that what VAdm Topshee was thinking about is a platform that has an ice-breaking hull that can self-deploy without an accompanying ice-breaker.

Canada should join the (nuclear) big leagues

Hmmm...apparently the F-35 will be certified to carry the B61-12 nuclear gravity bomb internally. No wonder Israel isn't keen on Trump selling F-35's to Saudi Arabia.

    Replacing the Subs

Is the front ramp of an LST-type ship compatible with an ice-breaking hull?
  17. GR66

    Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

My stab in the dark of what the RCAF fleet could possibly look like IF we were to go with a mixed F-35/Gripen fleet... 65 x F-35's in 2 x 24 aircraft squadrons focused on expeditionary missions where stealth is a key requirement (a significant increase over current NATO commitment) plus spares...
