I'm 100% in the keep the F-35 camp (hopefully 88 but at least 65) but I'm not willing to ignore the possibilities presented by a potential Saab collaboration.
With or without a Gripen purchase for the RCAF the domestic production and especially R&D partnership would potentially give us a head...
My son had a bad experience with one of these programs earlier this year. He saw his GP regarding chronic back and knee issues with the back being the main problem. An MRI was ordered for his back to figure out the issue. Fast forward several months (yeah Ontario health care wait times) when...
So what would be the purpose of Canadian nuclear weapons?
Is there any situation where we would consider a Canadian first-strike against a non-nuclear nation? Is there any non-nuclear nation that poses an existential threat to Canada such that we'd feel the need to respond with nuclear...
Curious...one of the things mentioned by VAdm Topshee in a recent interview was his belief that either of the subs in the running to replace the Victoria-class would be capable of operating under ice due to the endurance of their AIP systems.
One of the things previously brought up in the...
When a major shooting war begins it's very likely to be a "come as you are" affair. Losses will likely far exceed any potential production capacity to replace lost aircraft (assuming that production isn't interrupted by enemy action).
Putting this here as it discusses several ship types...
Excerpts from Vice-Admiral Tophsee's talk at the Canadian Seapower 2025 Conference in September (as reported in the Fall Starshell issue).
Some interesting comments on the type of fleet he'd like to see:
No doubt that he...
So...does anyone else have concerns about the US selling F-35's to Saudi Arabia?
Why Trump’s plan to sell F-35 jets to Saudi Arabia is so controversial
I obviously get Israel's concern, but overall with an aircraft that is so software dependent are there not concerns about the potential...
More on the "Kill Zones" created by drones and the effects on how the war is being fought in Ukraine

When the original competition took place did we have teams from the RCAF go to Sweden and do technical assessments and flight testing of the Gripen or did we just take written submissions from the bidders?
Regardless of the Pro's and Con's of a potential Gripen purchase I hope to God that...
I don't put a lot of faith in an article on fighter procurement when when discussing flight hour costs he makes a statement like this:
Really? Our Gripens will be pulling up to Petrocan pumps and filling up with unleaded? How can you take the author seriously with a statement like that?
I think that's a clear indication that our fighter fleet is too small. We don't have enough pilots man our squadrons, fill the admin and leadership roles and our training establishment and still have the personnel available to increase our training throughput.
If the only option to get more...
Sorry for the misunderstanding. When in a thread discussing purchasing Gripens and you say "Station them in Sweden close to Saab for cover for our latvia brigade." I think you can understand why it could be interpreted as stationing the Saab Gripens "close to Saab". Why would stationing F-35's...
Why would you want to put the non-stealth, 4th Gen fighter in Europe where AD density is the highest and the stealthy 5th Gen fighter in NORAD where the primary purpose is deterrence which implies being seen by a potential adversary?
The Caribbean is our back yard. More potential impact to us directly is things go to hell there.
Russia is an Arctic nation and a nuclear power and NATO are our traditional political allies.
China is a major economic power and a nuclear power. The other nations of SE Asia have possibly the...
Agreed. Ideally the RCN should have something similar to the Kingston-Class to fulfill those roles that are overkill for the CDC. The problem is does the RCN have the capacity to have both? And in this time of extreme global instability if you had to choose one over the other would you choose...
