Just an observation on the whole 6th Generation Fighter question. These projects are all expected to result in aircraft substantially more expensive than the F-35 (with estimates in the $200-300 million per aircraft price range). How many will any nation be able to afford? Should we be buying...
I'm 100% with you on the numbers. 32 x F-35's is not enough. So few that it creates deployment and support issues (as well as capability issues especially in the NATO/China missions) and such a big cut from the original order that it would definitely cause unnecessary friction with the US...
And we do that by locking ourselves 100% into the F-35 ecosystem? If we really feel the need to build some separation wouldn't weaning off the US by splitting a portion of our fleet to a domestically assembled platform be a good first start?
It would be a pretty blatant FU to Canada if the US were to block us from getting the F414 engines for the Gripen considering that they are an evolution of the F404 engines currently in use in our CF-18's. It would make it very clear that the US is only interested in having client states rather...
This from Google's AI Overview (haven't found a definitive article yet confirming the license agreement being finalized):
Closest I could find is this article:
People act like having Gripens in a mixed Gripen/F-35 fleet would be the equivalent of sending our pilots to war in Sopwith Camels. The Gripen is a pretty capable 4/4.5 Gen fighter and would stand up well against the 4/4.5 Gen fighters our potential enemies still have in large numbers.
It...
Not to take away from your general argument that Canada is expanding its capability to participate in many ways but to be fair to our other NATO allies it should be noted that they contribute on a global level as well...it just doesn't make Canadian news when they do...
Hypothetically if we were to go for 65 x F-35's for the NATO role and 65 x Gripens for the NORAD role we would still be one of the largest F-35 fleets (top 4-5?) so it would be hard for anyone to argue against us maintaining our parts contracts. Our NATO contribution would be much greater than...
So, Anduril is teaming up with the UAE for joint production of A-UAVs and an R&D centre in the UAE. What could possibly go wrong with that? The UAE is definitely a reliable ally...

Spain has joined Canada in fielding a SAR version of the C295. I wonder how much of their design leaned on lessons learned from the Kingfisher development?

It comes as not great surprise that Russia is not willing to face a direct military confrontation with the United States over Venezuela.

Isn't this a risk to any "Smart" device that is connected to the Internet? Doesn't have to be a product that is produced by an enemy state as long as there are any security vulnerabilities in the product they could potentially be hacked by a 3rd party. Not sure what the solution is unless you...
Speaking of biting off your nose to spite your face...
If the US Gov or the major defence contractors take punitive action against Canada for having the gall to pick another country's/company's hardware over their own then I think they will be hurting themselves in the long run. Europe and the...

If the US/Allies were to block the Straits of Malacca and other choke points to prevent China from getting vital resources then the PLAN might have to sortie its subs and possibly surface assets to try and break the blockade. Quiet subs with torpedoes may be very useful then. There is no one...
Japan's modular missile design under development further demonstrates what @Kirkhill points out as the blurred line between a missile and a drone.
