Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

The Victoria class was a great buy, the issue wasn’t the subs themselves it is the fact we decided to not use them as supplied and instead modified them. If we had left them as is and not himmed and hawed for a while before buying they would have done much better than they did. That one is on us...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Remember we haven't been at 2% GDP for defence since 1986. That 2% is supposed to be maintenance of a capable force, not the top end. You have to spend a lot more than 2% to get to the point that 2% is a worthy maintenance point.

Part of it too is they have certified people as red seal in the past who weren’t actually up to the standard needed. Two examples. Example 1: Power engineers and the old stoker trade. Some did make good 1st/2nd class engineers, some basically faked it and you can’t fake it in the real world in...

Self Defence in Canada (split from Gun Control 2.0)

I am at the point where the legalities matter less to me than the safety of my family. I now carry a knife on me everywhere because it is a useful tool. Has absolutely nothing to do with the random stabbings by mentally deranged and drug addicted individuals in my community killing random people...

Weren’t the CPFs also designed with a 25 year lifespan in mind as well?

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

It is fascinating to me they keep beating that dead horse. Literally occurred before I was born and we have had serious legislative changes since then. If that is all you can reference you don’t actually have a problem.

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

That would be the worst thing that could happen. Quebec shouldn’t even be allowed to have it’s own registry. It is better to have one standard across the country, it is one of our strongest points as a country. The key is not having a stupid standard.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Used to be people learned a bit at home fixing the basic equipment that was at home. Then they would get some level of training at highschool/college which either taught the basics formally or reinforced what they figured out at home. Then they started a apprenticeship afterwards and it would...

Or that technology has advanced to the point that you need years of training to be useful. As much as I love basic technology (half a year ago I machined a 56,000lbs 28ft long shaft on a clapped out lathe made between 1898 and 1926) that is not how things generally run in the modern era...

The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

Right now I think Carney is mostly making the right moves forward. If he drops the gun control nonsense it might actually make me vote differently. As it stands I refuse to vote for a government that scapegoats and criminalizes me for simply owning property.

    Replacing the Subs

One big thing I was looking at with the two designs is the German sub will require half the manning the Korean subs do. That is a serious factor for us considering how difficult it is to get people into the sub service in the first place.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

$37 a hour after 8 years in the CAF. Alternatively where I work I can make $47.48+ after 4 years, plus overtime, plus being home for my family, plus being able to quit if I wish or telling my boss to go F himself and not go to jail. And this is for a fairly standard job. If I wanted to really...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

The problem is there isn’t a 3 month technician set up. Most trades are set up the way they are for a reason. Excluding our big stupid amalagated trades getting competent workers isn’t a matter of training on ‘one thing’. Say there is 4 parts to said job and it takes a year to become...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

We can do a lot of things. We also have to be realistic in what we can or cannot do. The manufacturing capacity, tradesmen, and skills needed do not currently exist in country. If we got very serious about it today it would take a minimum of 5 years to develop it. This is everywhere. The CAF is...

    A Deeply Fractured US

They are breaking apart in France due to Macrons poor decision to dissolve government when he didn’t have to. He could have kept his moderate government and pushed the reforms needed but because of his own stupidity they are now extremely fractured. Odds are if he had waited he would have been...

    A Deeply Fractured US

Except people aren’t forests and those people drag everyone else into the mix. Easier to deradicalize than it is to try and let them ‘burn out’. Address why they have issues and usually the cause dies on it’s own. The US would really benefit from a third political party which doesn’t cater to...

    British Military Current Events

Alternatively you have the US military which is just a constant war crimes military that basically never holds their troops to task for their crimes. And those very few they do they pardon and put back in the positions that let them do the crimes they did in the first place. Hard to strike a...

Russia in the 21st Century [Superthread]

Does it need to be ‘accidental’? Aircraft entered their airspace with no transponders, to me that is a unilateral act of war and deserves a appropriate response. Nothing wrong with defending your airspace from a unidentified military aircraft.
