I love my Civic. Corollas are great too, especially if you're taller, they've got more room than a Civic. You're just going to have to go with what you try out, and like the best. But for reliability, Toyota and Honda top the list. Don't go new, go used.

As for black non-issue gloves, I find the best ones to buy are the ladies leather gloves with the Thinsulate lining. I've got really tiny hands too, and these are great. You can find them anywhere, Zellers/Walmart, even drugstores have them for about $10.

I recently recieved my joining instructions for ARCON this year, and it mentioned on the kit list that we should have been issued newer raingear, because the old stuff is deemed unfit. So I'm really confused, I only have the OD rain gear, is this the newer issue?

Yeah, they have new barracks, (built I think about 5-7 years ago? Correct me if I'm wrong) as well as the H-huts. They're all right, nothing classy but better than living in a drill hall or under a tent for two months. The valley is pretty boring, although there are some things to do.
