    Basic In Aldershot

Are you doing your BMQ/SQ? You should get some weekends off, but I don't think you'll get all of them. It may also depend on how far away you live.  BMQ is lots of fun, and you're lucky to do it in the summer.  I'll be doing my SQ/BIQ there this summer. PM or MSN me if you have more questions.

Military Swim Test - When, Where, and How- Merged

Generally you will do a swim test during your SQ. All it involves is treading water for two minutes, swimming 25 meters in combats (minus boots),  then doing another 25 metres with a PFD.  It's not very hard if you're  a strong swimmer, though I've seen my share of sinkers.

Why Did/Are You Joining the Armed Forces??

I joined because I was really interested in the army, and for something productive to do. The reserves beat any other part time job out there, it's entertaining, great friends/people with same interests, good benifets, a paycheck, and of course serving your country.

    Pressure Points ? Ouch

Hey, For the past two weeks I've had extreme pain in both of my calves, but only in a localized area. (Inside of calf, right where my boot ends). And I'm wondering if anybody else has experienced this? I'm thinking that it may be a pressure point caused by my bands/boots, because when I'm...

    Can you do this?

Hey, I am wondering if it's possible to do become a clerk (reserves), without completeing your SQ. My friend mentioned that she only has to do her clerk course this summer, no SQ.

Advice for women on BMQ and other courses [MERGED]

I'm female...have done BMQ, but am waiting my SQ/Infantry course this summer. So far, it's been awesome. Definitly one of the best decisions I've made so far in my life.  The  whole weapons thing creeped me out a bit at first, but after you go on your shoot and get used to them, they're so much...

    SCAM : PayPal acount compermized

Creepy stuff, especially with the banks and other people taking your SIN #'s. I just watched a whole story about the Paypal one on CNN. (http://www.fightidentitytheft.com/paypal_scam.html) The really lame ones are the emails you will get in your Hotmail account, asking you to update your...

    does size matter

I'm a female, 5'3, 130lbs. I did my BMQ with no problem, and hopefully will have the same luck with SQ and my infantry course. The only thing that was difficult was running, since most of the guys were a lot taller and had really long legs. But! if you're short/smaller, work on your speed in PT...

    Writing a Memo for absence

Hey, I did a search and came up with how to properly write a memo, because I missed a training night last week. I'm a little confused as to what I should write because of the format.

    Degree in Kinesiology

I've got a few friend taking Kines at Acadia, though they're not in the reserves. Most of them plan on going into physiotherapy, education and things in the health care line.

The Liners For Mukluks Washing Them

To be safe I'd wash them in cold water, and let them air dry...hang them up above the woodstove or something. I think they might be made of wool, and wool tends to shrink.

Advice for women on BMQ and other courses [MERGED]

Definitly get some of the miniature shampoos and lotions..Moisturizer is a must. Gallons of hairspray and gel, and don't forget a few packs of hairnets (Get the really good ones, or else they tear and your hair falls out. You can also fold them in half to make them stronger). A small alarm...

Advice for women on BMQ and other courses [MERGED]

I'm female going infantry, and so far I'm finding everything good. I'm 130 and 5'3, but I haven't had many problems. Just keep thinking positive, and remind yourself of why you're doing what you're doing.

    How long would it take..?

I'd apply as soon as possible. I applied in August 2004, and I start my BMQ this weekend. Hopefully it won't be too much trouble balancing school and course. But I do know some people who have been waiting 6 months- a year to get in. I would definitly take the oppourtunity if you can, to do your...

    Kit Question

Hey, I just got all my kit to start BMQ later this week. I was asked to bring all of it in on Thursday night, but I'm really wondering as to whether I have to take every single item in? Common sense would lead me to believe that I could leave the small clothing items at home...

    Training Motivation

I think it's totally up to the individual as to whether training wifh a buddy is best. I train by myself, and it's all good. It gives you a chance to think about things, and relax in a way. Though, in order to get motivated, set a goal or reward for yourself. Or just keep remembering that there...
