Soldier sentenced for staying in bed during fight

Pathetic behavior. I served as a retired military flat faced civy type in Camp Julien and twice in my tour things went BANG! in the night (Tanx Terry) and I got the hell out of bed, put on my helmet and flak jacket, and made my way to the bunker behind our CP with a motorola, grabbed the phone ...

    Jump Wings

I suspect the family doctor chose to ignore the vision requirement, or did not understand what it meant. Someone with one eye certainly would have been V5, and thus unsuitable for para training according to the requirement. The courts disagreed, believe it was a human right tribunal.

    Jump Wings

When I was at CABC in the early 90s we had to recourse an Army Cadet who convinced the courts that he was perfectly capable of performing the requirements of a basic parachutist despite having only one eye. He had been medically RTU'd after completing most of the ground phase when the PI...

    Remembering Bruce Fitzsimmons

I first met Bruce in early 1983 when we were subbies in 2 Service Battalion, and later in AB Service Commando. He met and married Bernie in those years, she was a Finance Officer serving in Petawawa as well. Bruce was one of those rare Logistics officers who bloomed where ever he was planted...

Prince Harry may be training in Alberta: reports

History also proves that her platoon mates were hand selected, indeed were already fully trained NCOs,  so HRH would not have to associate with the wrong kind of girls. And she got to go home to Windsor Castle every night. I doubt her peers were afforded the same quarters. What a sacrifice!

Prince Harry may be training in Alberta: reports

Not to mention nutters, womanizers, wife killers, tax avoiders,  the list goes on. A quaint but totally outdated institution that has no place in a modern independant country such as Canada. Argueably the longest chain of welfare cases in history. But we keep on sucking up to these foreigners...

30 May 2007: MCPL Darrell Jason Priede, R.I.P.

Deepest sympathy to all those who knew and loved him. Obviously a very talented man, and a great loss.

    Vehicle Tech work boots

I am not a lineman but have done my time hanging off a tree wearing climbers/hooks/spikes whatever you want to call them, and wearing them with some boots is agony. I do have a pair of  Royers, and also a pair of the Five Star Generals, but over the years by far the best pair of boots I bought...

    Stories my recruiter told me.......

A year plus from now, that seems reasonable. What did they expect in the Army? My problem I was recruited into the Navy, something I felt nothing for, and spent too much time training there for naught before donning a green uniform.

    Stories my recruiter told me.......

Just curious, how many people here got coerced into a trade or classification they felt no affinity for, but accepted due to the pressure of a recuiter or the potential for a career. Second question, how many people got put through hell on earth trying to remuster or reclassify into something...

    Army LTC Charged

Some people just think their poop does not smell and that they are covered in teflon when then assume what is in all essence, upper middle management.  Been there, seen it.

Army reconsidering Prince Harry's deployment to Iraq: report

Harry, go with your heart and not with some pile of Whitehall bureaucrats in uniform. And quit if you must. And indeed your brother also needs to serve there as well, if not ZERO credibility. If the worst comes to pass and both you die, there is a number three ie Uncle Randy Andy. If you both...

    New Survey on best PM

The same was said of Robert Stanfield, but the press did a number on him dropping a football after being tossed it repeatedly with perfect catches. But then again PET was just oh so cool as are all of his surviving offspring, though one of them did kind of have a problem with going AWOL from CTC...

    Global Warming/Climate Change Super Thread

If you thought that the distribution of $$$$ by the UN in the Iraq "Oil for Food" programs was rife with graft and corruption (made the Federal Fiberals Quebec Ad campaigns look like small change) watch and wait when we start send carbon credits aka cash to all these third world nations largely...

    Vehicle Tech work boots

Said better by someone more current than me.... I also wore the safety Kodiak issued some years ago and it did not fit very well, so the next pair I had were Terra" Mercenary" which fit a lot better. Keep trying, there is a boot out there somewhere for you that fits,

    Vehicle Tech work boots

If nothing "off the rack" is available, have a pair custom fitted by a reputable boot manufacturer, Viberg Boots in Victoria come to mind. (www.workboot.com) .There is money/budget  in Base Supply to fit personnel with the necessary uniform items if in stock and local purchase items do not fit-I...

Afghanistan: Why we should be there (or not), how to conduct the mission (or not) & when to leave

My sentiments exactly. Talk a good line but mean absolutely nothing when push comes to shove.

Why are we Service Support rather then Combat Service Support?

Ditto. I was taught CSS was Logistics, EME functions in a Svc Bn, Medical and Dental Support in a Frd Amb , and MP in an MP Pl , all in a self sufficient CBG context. In the day, CER and Sigs were CS, but Combat Engineers moved to Cbt Arms some years ago.Not sure what happened to the Engr Sp...

11 Apr 2007 - MCpl Allan Stewart, Tpr Patrick Pentland, RCD

On a day when things seemed to be going incredibly right for me, I once again am reminded of the sacrifices our fellow Canadians are making over there. RIP my friends. :salute:
