    Ammo Tech formal training?

Ammo Tech training starts off with the QL-3 Pt 1 at CFSAL. Week 1 consists of basic lectures on using computers, military writing (memo writing), military publications, and math. The math is pretty basic, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The math includes calculating the area...

    Rations, Meal Halls ect... Merged

Not sure how things work in Esquimalt, but address your situation through your CoC. They should be able to make arrangements for you to pick up a box lunch for breakfast prior to departing for work. I have been in similar situations and have never had a problem, although I have never used this...

How important is marksmanship for OAS?

It is a interesting point, how can someone become proficient with a weapon when they only get 120 rounds or less a year. I have often wonder if this is a result of the 5.56mm pencil. I have been on ranges numerous times where scores were adjusted to get everyone through. I wonder if this...

PAT Platoon and Young Family Problems/Questions

Your husband should be able to get a PMQ. When he arrives in Borden he should be posted to PRETC. He should write a memo requesting a PMQ and complete a Request to Vacate Single Quarters. In his memo he must detail his situation, ie children, that you are expecting or have a newborn, etc. The...

CF 100 : Leave Pass [Merged]

I too am curious, what is monitor mass? What are the advantages of this system? Isn't inputting troops leave information into monitor mass and printing them a waste of time? I am a course director and we are ruthless with leave passes, which the students have to fill out every weekend. Doing a...

    Difference between IEDD and EOD?

Good explanation of the difference between EOD and IEDD. One small error that I would like to correct, what use to be known as the HC course has been divided into two courses, the IEDD Operator Assistant course which is about 2 weeks long and the IEDD Operators course, which I believe is a...

CF Replaces "Arty-Sim-ed" Porta Pottie @ Gagetown

Regardless of how you feel about this realism and danger, this is a prime example of pyrotechnics being misused. Inside a sea container is clearly a violation of training safety "Ground-burst simulators shall NOT be thrown within 15 m of personnel, and 100 m of material, equipment and vehicles."...

    NGrain - 3D Computer Models

I agree that hands on is better, although their statistics dispute that. Our problem in the ammo world is that in many circumstances we have no training aids to provide hands on training and obviously cannot bring live items into the classroom. We often are forced to use poor quality drawings...

    NGrain - 3D Computer Models

I have had a very limited chance to try out some of the NGrain 3D Computer Models and initially they are quite impressive. The ammo school is having some training aids developed that will hopefully improve some aspects of training. I know some training aids have been developed for other trades...

    Ammo Tech as career choice

If someone is interested in Borden, have them contact the school and arrangements can be made for them to visit the school and possibly the ammo depot. They can talk to a variety of people with a variety of experiences in the trade. There is currently a QL-3 course in house that they can talk to...

    Ammo Tech as career choice

Yes, the EOD school is part of CFSME and currently they are running all the #2 Assistant Courses and Operator Courses. The ammo school has received some direction on incorporating the #2 Operator Assistant course into the QL-5 package. Initially, AT's will be sent on the courses in Gagetown...

    Ammo Tech as career choice

pob245, are you considering ammo tech? Do you live near a base? If you live near a base where ammo techs are posted it is possible that a meeting can be arranged so that you can discuss training, postings, etc with them.

    Ammo Tech as career choice

Trueman speaks the truth about the job varying depending on where you are posted. IED is becoming core training again though. It may take some time for the transition to occur, but the IED Operators Assistant course will become part of the QL-5 course.

CF Replaces "Arty-Sim-ed" Porta Pottie @ Gagetown

Unfortunately things like that are common place. Part if it is probably due to the attitude that pers generally have toward pyrotechnics. Before going to a range we conduct TOET's on the applicable weapon. Grenade ranges, rocket range (M-72/84mm), etc usually have a number of A/RSO's. Pyro's we...

CF Replaces "Arty-Sim-ed" Porta Pottie @ Gagetown

Agreed, Arty Sim in an ammo can, dumb thing to do. In my opinion, the Arty Sim is the most dangerous ammunition item in the CF inventory. Incidents like this Porta Pottie happen frequently. On the plus side at least no one was hurt. It is not available through the internet, but for those with...

PSU WEAPON OF COICE (your input please)

No training on the DM211, that is unfortunate. I would think it would be a valuable resource for the protection of ships, harbour structures, etc. Since the DM211 is really a complex underwater grenade, I would think it would be easy to conduct dry training with dummy variants. It may be much...

PSU WEAPON OF COICE (your input please)

Just a note, I am assuming that the 40mm mounted on the US ships is the automatic grenade launcher, which uses the 40mm x 53 ammunition. The M203 uses the 40mm x 46 Low Velocity ammunition. The ammunition is not interchangeable.
