NCM to Officer ( merged )

The road back into the regs from the reserves may not be as smooth /straightforward as you'd like it to be. We recently discussed the feasibility of doing a CT/OT (U) to Log and the Outlook was bleak to say the least. In this thread: https://army.ca/forums/threads/12797.1375.html All that to...

    Confidence Course

Haven't done it since basic (2011), it's occasionally scheduled but I still haven't done it. Usually, it's cancelled due to rain the day of or prior. The reserves is also always competing for time, so at the time a BFT was more "important" than an obstacle course. It was a lot of fun as well..

Component Transfer ( CT ) - Reserve to Regular

I re read your posting history and you are actually in a good position. Since you have a 1 year coop, you have a decent opportunity to make some money and save it. That way you won't need the reserves for the final 8 months of school. The last time I checked it was a 6 month wait if trained and...

    Combat Boots policy 2018-CANFORGEN 127/18

Why not "hope for the best?" This initiative has essentially said that all of the boots that the CAF has tried to procure over the better part of a decade have been a failed experiment. So then does it really matter how worn out your issued boots are? If they were the "perfect" boot then we...

Component Transfer ( CT ) - Reserve to Regular

The CT (untrained) numbers are even worse. The only flaw with releasing and reapplying is that the OP will loose the ILP for that year as they can't claim it until the September following the semester. At the end of the day it's only up to $2k, but it is what is. Additionally, until the OP has...

Component Transfer ( CT ) - Reserve to Regular

You don't even need your own DWAN account, all you need is to access the form on the intranet. I'm not to sure what it is, but if you search "component transfer" on index.mil.ca (on someone's DWAN account), then you should be able to create an application. Add in the comments that you don't have...

Component Transfer ( CT ) - Reserve to Regular

Put it in as soon as you can, I got told it was a 5 year wait for LOG and MARS a year or two ago. When they switched systems I told them to close my file as things were going much better on civvy street and I didn't feel like wasting my time or their time anymore. If/when DCMPG contacts you...

Primary Leadership Qualification Course (PLQ) Mega thread

The Brigade commander brought it up the last time I saw him, but that was at least a year ago. I've asked the COC and was told that it was a maybe. I haven't heard anything yet and I can't really see it happening, at least this year.

    Combat Boots policy 2018-CANFORGEN 127/18

I skimmed through the FAQ, and I'm impressed that somebody actually thought about this from the gate.. 21. I am in the Primary Reserve working on Class B contract in a Tier 3 unit wearing DEU as dress of the day, but I am also serving in a Tier 2 unit as Class A on weekends. What is my...

Pension Transfer Value / Lump Sum Pymt [Merged]

Good to know thanks - re locked in portion. I'll do some research and compare the offerings between the federal government retirees coverage and the army's retiree coverage. I'd imagine that they are similar, but over time (the additional 34 years of service that I need to retire w/o a...

Pension Transfer Value / Lump Sum Pymt [Merged]

I don't see why it wouldn't, but does this "locked in" RRSP portion country against your RRSP room? I'm not planning on releasing this year, but I'll be shocked if I get my CD. I'll need to do some calculations, but given my age / value of my annuity vs the interest that could be compounded, I'd...

    Questions about joining the Reserves

If I recall correctly the shortest trade is either Artillery at roughly 3 weeks for the Dp 1.0 and the DP 1.0 Infantry is is 4 weeks (+ 4 weeks of BMQ-L). Food for thought, I think that the time would fly by faster if you actually enjoyed the trade that you picked.

    Class A service and AWOL

I mean the reg-f army does duty watches for  what I believe to be a similar purpose, but we don't and there wouldn't be any value in doing it. No one else should be in the building outside our unit on our parade night. The amount of people parading or "special guests" showing up wouldn't warrant...

    Class A service and AWOL

I've never made a subordinate stand a sentry in the field when I'm in charge. Nor has anyone ever made me do a sentry shift (outside of stove watch). Granted my trade's situation is a little unique in that we are either supporting someone else and they typically provide the security, it's not a...

    Class A service and AWOL

Who does it outside of the normal Admin/Parade nights? I'm not telling you how to run the show, but personally I have night classes 2 nights a week, 2 nights a week with the army and the other night is a social sports league. I don't really have any free time during the week and if my COC was...

    Class A service and AWOL

Not to derail this, but do sailors enjoy this? This sounds like it would be extremely boring and not a good use of their time. Is it voluntarily or does everyone do one every X days? I'm just generally curious.

Verification of Former Service (VFS) [Merged]

What about doing a component transfer to the reserves and re applying from the reserves? The numbers are also low, but I was declined off the street and accepted from within the reserves. When I received my offer it was quoted at the Pte 1 rate of pay.

MILITARY RELATED CELLULAR USE BY RESERVISTS

They should be, as should be Sat Phones. Heck we used to roll out Line Dets back when I first joined (which still should happen). The comms situation is laughable  with radios, trucks and personel. It's not really a surprise that people are leaving, "make it work" can only go on for so long...

MILITARY RELATED CELLULAR USE BY RESERVISTS

What's really the issue here? At least in Ontario every cellphone plan that I've ever had since has included unlimited weekends. With apps such as Tac Nav/Battle Pro there isn't a reason not to bring it out to the field (other than the obvious reasons).  I'd say the bigger issue is that there...
