    Writing a Memo for absence

I believe I made it quite clear that the example I gave was  most likely wrong. If this was in some way unclear then now we have it from two sources. Anyhow, cheers for the link.

    Writing a Memo for absence

How I write them (invariably I am all f***ed up and am doing this wrong, so take it for what it's worth [nothing]): (I use all caps) Date To: From: name/rank          SN          position (including who you belong to) Subject: Missed trg. I,__________, SN; am writing this memo to...

    Your workout routine

I highly recomend clean's (first part of the clean and jerk) and power cleans as a whole body work out. They're really good for explosive (fast twitch) strength. Also try doing front squats as well as the regular kind. The balance changes and you feel it in some different muscles. Both take some...

Pffft... What fun is that? edit- I should add that for a while I was known as Private GQ...Luckily it didn't stick.

And If I could bench more than 190 and I'd be set...Being a skinny bastard has some advantages, but you pay for it elsewhere. ;)

    Insoles - Cost of Orthotics

You were told right. Nothing is better than gel at turning perfectly good feet into hamburger. (Alot of people find this out the hard way). Personaly I am a fan of spenco's OAS Backpacker and greenline Insoles (they just seam to fit my feat). I don't remember the brand, but you can get a blue...

    Merged subject - Nicknames

I did a search and was surprised that it didn't turn up any especialy relevent threads. Just wondering if any of you have any amusing nicknames military or otherwise. (I'm bored at work and need something to brighten my day)

    New Canadian Food Guide

It's a good idea. I find the food guide only somewhat useful though. If you had to make a guide for a person of average height, weight, metabolism, and activity level, you could do a whole lot worse than the Canada Food Guide. For me however, it isn't so helpful. I need more total calories...

    Your workout routine

I usualy run 10K, 1.6k (mile) or 2.4k (1.5 mile). Based on my times for those distances my 5k is probably between 17 and 19 minutes (according to this chart anyway) http://home.hia.no/~stephens/runpred.htm You should judge yourself based on how much you  improve rather than how fast you are...

    Favourite War Movies

Flying a spitfire in and of it self can be acomplished by anyone with enough disposable income and a pilots license. What is special about this one is that unlike most, it has not been scrapped and rebuilt, or built new. It is the WWII 'real deal' so to speak.

Here's a start: http://www.forces.gc.ca/site/minister/eng/Granatstein/gra2engsecintro.html#TOP This is a report by J.L Granatstein on Structure within the CF while he was acting as commissioner on the Special Commission on the Restructuring of the Canadian Forces. There is also this nifty...

Infantry or Artillery, specific for me, (ive done searches)

I can't speak from long experience, but I'll give my impression anyway. Take it worth a grain of salt until some of the guys who have been in longer can weigh in . Weekend training exercises in the infantry tends to involve infantry work  :P. So you end up doing section attacks, fighting in...

How to get family on board

My dad thought it was a good idea...make me more independent, responsible ;D, mature ;D ;D and whatnot, as well as paying for my education. My mom has this thing against guns/dangerous things/fun though.

In no specific order: Stalingrad Where Eagles Dare A Bridge to Far Bridge over the River Kwai Band of Brothers Platoon The Great Escape Das Boot (and for the love of god it's pronounced close to 'boat', not 'boot') Sharp' I am sure more will come to mind

Infantry or Artillery, specific for me, (ive done searches)

Don't know about more fun, but the infantry is a blast. It's great when you get a call saying 'hey, private ______ we're recruiting tomorrow, could we pay you to come and do some rappelling all day tomorrow?'. Even with few qualifications, opportunities to do fun stuff come up quite often. Then...

How to get family on board

Amber, My mom was just as displeased as yours by the sound of things. Difference was that she had previously become aware that she didn't get much of a say, in what I chose to do. I gave the long spiel with all the information, print-outs, and reasons why joining the reserve was a good idea...
