Phase 2 in Moose Jaw. Do any OJT's have questions?

Interesting. Do people generally want to go to MJ to fly the Harvard or prefer flying the Grob (for which the waiting period was much shorter I believe)? Is the waiting period before phase II still much longer for MJ than for Portage? Is it still true that if you do phase II (G), you can't go...

Bad habits developed by civilian pilots

Yeah I get that. Few airplanes can developp as much lift under negative Gs as they can under postive. I know Pitts and other pure aerobatic airplanes sometimes have symetrical wings (see the outside loop in line abreast formation: http://www.pittspecials.com/videos.html ). What I don't get is...

Phase 2 in Moose Jaw. Do any OJT's have questions?

Thank you. Was he sent on the T-38 because he did not fit on the Hawk or is this now something that is done to reduce the waiting periods between the different phases of training?

Bad habits developed by civilian pilots

Thank you for the answers. ??? I might be missing something, but the only way I can see that be true is if you have a negative AoA and consider that when you push, your negative AoA increases... Please enlighten me. Olivier

Bad habits developed by civilian pilots

Isn't this fact simply a consequence of the way the airplanes (especially fighters) were designed in the West? Why was it choosen in the first place to build aircraft that can't sustain 0 or negative G? Thanks again for the responses.

Bad habits developed by civilian pilots

As a pilot with no military experience, there are a couple of things I was wondering about: 1. Is that 3 degrees glidepath something essential that is always done in training (even in the Grob)? The airplane I fly most often has a glide ratio of about 9 to 1, so with the engine out in a no...

Phase 2 in Moose Jaw. Do any OJT's have questions?

So brian_k, it's been almost a year since you started this thread. Have you finished BFT? Where are you headed now? What would you say were the most challenging aspects of the training? What was the schedule like?

    Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP)-RMC 2000 - 2018 [Merged]

Don't worry about what your parents say. Apply as soon as possible. The worst thing that will happen is you won't be accepted this year. You can then apply next year and you'll be even better prepared.

Bad habits developed by civilian pilots

Good advice Zoomie! I didn't do my CPL flight test before ASC for that exact reason (had the hours and the written test done). I knew that if I failed, I only had to pass my flight test and apply next year. Now since I was selected, there's no point anymore getting my CPL. Good point  ;) In...

Bad habits developed by civilian pilots

Thank you for your replies. Do you think it is a good idea to spend some time flying by instruments (I have a couple of friends that could act as check pilot) or should I continue doing what I described in my first post?

Bad habits developed by civilian pilots

Hi, I'm an aspiring RCAF pilot, currently at a civilian university, finishing my degree through the ROTP program. I have a PPL with a night rating and spend most of my money (every penny that's left once rent and food is paid...) on flying. I mostly fly an old tailwheel (Aeronca Champ) and a...

    Late ROTP

Yes. As long as you're still at least one year away from getting your degree, you can apply.

    I'm going for... the F-18!

    ROTP 2011-2012

Then I guess the selection board made a huge mistake when they offered me pilot, because I am far from being a "perfect speciment"! Seriously, if that's really what you want to do, go for it. Prepare yourself well for the CFAT and learn as much as you can about the trade (including the training...

    ROTP 2011-2012

I'm quite excited too! I'm only bringing one medium-sized bag (I'm going to a civilian university after the orientation camp). I have no idea really how much clothing I should bring since the information package I got was for the 15 weeks BOMQ, so I went for a bit less than what was recommended...

    DEO - Pilot - Questions

Yes it is, and it's important to know that night, IFR, multiengine and instructor ratings do not count as an upgrade as far as the CFASC is concerned. They want you to get the next license: PPL, CPL and ATPL.

    ROTP 2011-2012

I'm sorry, I don't know how rude or condescending I sounded, but it surely isn't what I was trying to do. English is my second language and I do my best to express myself as well as I can. I read all the the ROTP thead and spent a lot of time searching and reading the forums since the last year...

    ROTP 2011-2012

Thanks, but it somehow begs the question since I don't even know what civilian university candidates normally do  ;) Normally, is the recruit camp before or after the first year? Thanks

    ROTP 2011-2012

I am already halfway through my degree (1.5 year left) and was accepted in April for ROTP at a civilian university. Does anyone know how it usually works for the BMOQ in such a case? Should I expect a short recruit camp in August like RMC candidates and then the whole 2012 summer? I tried to...
