    Chinese Military,Political and Social Superthread

Interesting read G2G, I did not know Taiwan had such a huge share in semiconductors. Certainly would make both sides much more interested in Taiwan. It gives the U.S. a self protection reason to help Taiwan which might tip the balance in their favour. We will see.

    (y) Rat's are unpredictable when backed into a corner or facing being ousted from their party! An attack on Taiwan becomes more likely as Xi's position in the CCP becomes more threatened.

Above quote from Wikipedia. U.S. does not say it will defend Taiwan just provide arms to Taiwan if they choose to buy them. It stops short of promising U.S military intervention. That gives the U.S. the out it needs to do nothing. I stand corrected, they are not officially neutral. I was going...

I agree with you whole heartedly, Taiwan could win with enough support. I don't believe that support will be there when sh#t hits the fan! The U.S has never publicly backed up Taiwan. I believe they are officially neutral. I believe that China has been laying the ground work for an invasion for...

    What to Do With Contrarians?

I was referring to the reaction of the scientific community when a round earth was first proposed. The people proposing it were ridiculed and attacked because they proposed an idea different from the status quo. exactly what the article was discussing.

    What to Do With Contrarians?

People often want fresh insight until they get it and then they reject it. Just because everyone agrees doesn't make them right, Flat earth anyone ;)

Your looking at the differences, I'm looking at the similarities. Both leaders are/were facing dwindling public support. Both have territories that they believe belong to them and both have a population that has had years of indoctrination convincing them that the people living there really want...

If it fails I think your right. If successful however I could see him gaining much popularity amongst the CCP. During the Falklands war Galtieri was a hero when the invasion succeeded but ended up ousted because he couldn't hold onto it. The China/Taiwan affair may play out similar. China's...

    Replacing the Subs

Three eyes now, being left out because we would rather call useless elections than spend on defense! https://breakingdefense.com/2021/10/o-no-canada-is-a-three-eyed-aukus-an-augury-for-change/

CCP seems to have a great influence on youtube as well. Two videos posted by Colin and one posted by MilEME09 just last month are already taken down (page 202 of this forum).

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

I heard lots of stories like this when I lived in P.E.I. The fisherman there had a horsepower race. You would hear of guys removing a 150HP Perkins engine and putting a 400+ HP Cat engine with new bigger props and all and only gaining 1-2 knots max speed. The hull has a limit that is near...

    Canadian Surface Combatant RFQ

Sorry to take so long to notice your reply, I don't think my notifications are working properly. I don't think your on a different track, I think you just said what I was saying only better. I am a mechanic not a wordsmith after all. Public perception needs to change first I believe. The...

    Canadian Surface Combatant RFQ

That mentality is dangerous. We can't afford to replace the G-Wagons with proper vehicles so why don't we buy a bunch of CRV's and Rav4's to replace them. After all they are made in Canada have 4 wheel drive and can carry 4 people. What more do we need. That sounds crazy but it is essentially...

    Canadian Surface Combatant RFQ

FJAG you talk often on here about part time staffing of many parts of the Canadian Forces. I do see your point on using part time positions to save money however I question the long term success of such a strategy. In any business I have worked in or used the services of part time workers were...

Opportunity to update the CC-150 fleet?

I would love to see us get a fleet of relatively new A330's to convert but more likely GOC will be talked into taking Rouge 767's to be converted into KC-767's. That sounds more like our government as aren't those 767's totally worn out by now. The airlines won't want to give up any planes with...

    Cruel and Unusual-Not

Absolutely Despicable. Was this judge looking for his/her 15 minutes of fame? The courts should be sending a clear message that terrorism will not be tolerated. It doesn't matter which side of the spectrum it comes from.

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

I was thinking along those lines also. What if the RCN kept the Asterix as a reserve crewed ship for AOR duties as well as sea lift and humanitarian relief. I remember seeing a graphic of her under deck vehicle and ammo storage and I think it was a pretty decent size considering sea lift is a...
