    New Navy Rank Slip-ons

The one thing that I hate about the new slip-ons is that they don't show any Unit designation same as the air force ones. They come in "CANADA" and that is it.  I like people to know what unit I belong to.  Main reason why I still wear my unit ones and not the new Navy slip-ons.  That and as far...

    Clearance diver

It fluctuates.  I joined as a direct entry PID and shortly after that they stopped doing it again.  The problem with going the reserve route is that you still need 4yrs reg force service (or equivalent) and be QL5 qualified (that would be QL2 for PIDs as our QLs are a little bit different). ...

    New Navy Rank Slip-ons

The black Ts have been allowed since Jan 07.  The white Ts for NCDs have been allowed since at least 01. Personally, I hate my OD nametags with black writing.  I think I tossed them into a drawer hopefully to be lost sometime soon.  Prefer to wear my CADPAT with the anchors. DM

    Civy Medic vs. Army Medic

I had a quick look into it.  QL4 is also called enhancement training and covers the clinical portion of the REG 3s.  Apparently it is something relatively new and therefore your 6 may not have had the course yet which is why he wasn't able to see patients on his own. DM

    Civy Medic vs. Army Medic

Just a quick addition to my previous.  One of the guys that CT'd from RES to REG medic did not have his QL4.  He was required (from Ottawa) to write a Prior Learning Assessment test and to have a staff teach him everything from the QL4 prior to being allowed to due the JIBC PCP portion. DM

    Civy Medic vs. Army Medic

I have no idea what the story was behind him.  There may have been more to it than simple lack of QL. I have not actually taken the Res QL4.  The only reason I know this is cause some friends did do it last summer and both my driver and Crew Commander of my Bison are Res QL6.  The differences...

    Civy Medic vs. Army Medic

Reserve medic is a bit different from Reg Force medic due to time constraints for the most part.  The Res QL3 and 4 is equivalent to the Reg Force QL3.  There 4s is the clinical portion of the Reg Force 3s. Depending on civvie availability a Res medic can go a while before his 4s if he is...

Troops carrying pistols outside the gate

My mistake, I was basing that off of a previous post from a previous instructor. Still don't understand why it can't be part of these courses tho. DM

Troops carrying pistols outside the gate

Haven't done ILQ, was just using it as an example.  But that is my point.  As far as I know, BOTC (and I'm leaving the infantry out of this as they get everything I believe) is the only trade course that has any pistol training on it.

Troops carrying pistols outside the gate

There is always time and it doesn't have to be when we start our work-up training.  The CoC knows that specific ranks and trades will be carrying pistols.  Make is part of the courses essential to them then.  In BRT we trained with the C7 because we will be expected to use it.  Snr NCOs and...

Troops carrying pistols outside the gate

I think you misunderstood.  I`m all for giving them to ppl that are qualified.  I`m just saying that at the moment, if I`m giving one with my current lack of training, I`m locking it up unless given proper training.  I don`t want to be that person that has an ND and kills someone. DM

Troops carrying pistols outside the gate

Definitely true MT.  Even the annual shoot on the 7 isn't enough.  But at least then you have a number of mags to blow off.  Supposedly on the 9mm range you get 30 rounds? DM

Troops carrying pistols outside the gate

Which is why I don't think troops should be carrying them.  Hell if I had my way, the one I'm issued would be locked in my barrack box for the length of the tour as of right now.  I just know one of the medics in Texas almost got charged cause he didn't wear his. DM

Troops carrying pistols outside the gate

I think heading out with a sidearm is a good idea.  Sort of a last ditch weapon and I'm sorry, but the 7 just isn't suited in all scenarios. The only problem I have is the lack of training for those already carrying them.  I'm expected to carry one overseas and can't see myself getting much...

    component transfer---kit

Good point.  Nothing is set with the military.  When I CT'd, I was QL5 and they were still running SQ (which I ended up doing).  Thanx DM

    component transfer---kit

Just curious, why did you have to redo your BMQ?  I did my reserve BRT in '01, CT'd in '06 from reserve diver to Reg medic and bypassed BMQ. Anyways, for me I submitted my paperwork in Jan, got the call in Feb and reported to Borden in Mar. DM

    Clearance diver

Just like to add another thing to this.  Simply put, you have to already be a military diver, SARTECHs qualify as well.  You have to be QL5 to OT, this is standard for ANY OT. You also have to pass the dive express test, which is almost the same as EXEMPT.  Ask your local PSP staff for the...

QL3 course, what are these rumours?

The 3s ARE longer now, mainly the JIBC portion.  Part of the reason for this is that they have extended the on-car portion.  Rather than the 10 days that we had for ours, theirs is supposed to be upwards of 2-3months.  Definitely good for pratical experience as I know on my on-car I had about 50...

    Med Bag

MT, I was recently looking at the BFM with Med insert as my med bag for Texas and then overseas.  I'm currently mounted, but there is always the chance of that changing.  What is your view of it?  Anything that you would change or any other pack that you wish you would have gotten?
