    Cyber operator questions

Sure hope you don't use online banking my friend. But judging by the car you chose, I would say you still keep your money in your sock draw.

    Intelligence officer or Intelligence operator

Reserve recruiting is seperate from regular force. Usually they hire for the position at that unit. So you would have to find out from the unit if there are int op positions.

    Cyber operator questions

No exemption. Most positions are analyst based. Investigating incidents and such. Look up SOC analyst on google, That is much of the work. There are opportunities in other, more, specialised duites, but you will have to prove yourself. Anything else, as others said, classified. Private as it...

    RCAF Reserve - Capability-Based Recruiting

I have been a leader my friend. Spent quite a few years as a tech lead, thanks. Manage people's expectations, sure, being a part of the problem. I had paperwork sit on my chains desk after them pushing me to get in on time. So it is one thing to manage expectations, it is another to say, ah...

    RCAF Reserve - Capability-Based Recruiting

I would disagree with you. As those in sig o/ CELE are not aware often of the world in cyber. Seriously. People in positions to make critical decisions are ones with the lack of experience in the field. We are seeing it now with PLARS and training plans.

    RCAF Reserve - Capability-Based Recruiting

Same with my trade, no officer equivalent. Also no recruiter suggested it, perhaps because of the trade I work in? Not sure. I have my degree and was senior in my position before I left to serve, as it was a dream. Dream is not so slowly dimming.

    RCAF Reserve - Capability-Based Recruiting

Even if they have no power, they could see the a problem with the speed of government. Just not caring, even if you "can't do anything" is apathy towards the situation and why things never change.

    RCAF Reserve - Capability-Based Recruiting

Well aware the CAF is large. Just my experience so far. All I keep getting told is "the speed of government". Not once has my CoC said, oh you are right. Nope. Just hey, quell your expections this is not the private sector, cool your jets. So many not all departnments/units/dets are like that...

    RCAF Reserve - Capability-Based Recruiting

Gee, I need to listen to higher ups and I need to do my job well. I would make the argument corporate transfers are better off. In the private sector, many of the members I have run across would be axed in the private sector. The appathy for doing anything with urgency and well seems to go out...

    RCAF Reserve - Capability-Based Recruiting

Seen plenty of 22 - 23 year old officers who have never had a management/leadership roles try to tell veteran staff how to do something, just because of rank. A smart manager will listen to experienced staff.

    RCAF Reserve - Capability-Based Recruiting

Funny you said about training tied to industry. I was told my certs, or civvie work had no value in the CAF. Basically if you have a couple of college level courses and that is it, you will have a better chance at PLAR than a veteran in the space with years and years of experience. Which I...

    RCAF Reserve - Capability-Based Recruiting

Never heard of this or the person. Curious. Because PLARs in cyber are rare (as someone who came from 15+ years in the private sector, I know), and there are no cyber officers. So he would have to be Sig O or CELE. I can ask around. (EDIT) Most likely CELE.

Enhanced Reliability Check (ERC) - Merged

Being in Ottawa won't make a difference. It generally if you lived overseas within the last decade or so. And usually the length to determine residency is 6 months in most places. A presec, depending on countries involved and other complicating factors can take up to a couple of years. Some...

    Signals Officer day-to-day

SigO would have better overall perspective of the army sig world, not necessarily in the private sector, not if you want to be hands on. As I mentioned SigO is more general in duties. You can specialise in cyber, but it is luck of the draw and aptitude/quals. If you actaully want to do cyber...
