Grandfather served with hasty p's in WW2

Not sure if he would reply, but Farley Mowat served in the Hasty Ps, and is still alive.  Your grandfather may even be mentioned in his books.... During the Second World War, Mowat was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Second Battalion, Hastings and Prince Edwards Regiment...

    Neptune's Notes

http://www.hmcsventure.com/Venture_NeptuneNotes.pdf is very similar to the copy I now have.  I only have a paper copy, and includes these 46 pages, a chapter on port visits, and an impressive annex of naval terms and a sample joining letter.  It is definitely not politically correct.

    Namibia

I just found a UN flag given to me by my uncle, WO Greg Carey.  It was the last UN flag to be flown by Canada in Namibia.  I dont have any real attachment to it, as I wasnt there, but if anyone who was there would like it, pm me.  Note, I dont often log in, so be patient.

    Looking for Strats, 85-88

I did basic with a lot of Strats who would have arrived at the unit in 85.  Always wondered what happened to them.  There were about 100 armoured corps types on that course, most went Dragoons or Huzzars, but some went West. (not 100% sure, but I think these fellows all went west): Ed Koren...

    SOF Truths

The are just that: SOF Truths.  They are used by many SOF units, and yes, they can be found in literature, posters, etc. If you are looking for a question from these truths, here is one: Although use of the term SOF is a relatively recent thing, SOF itself is not.  I recently read a book called...

    ESQUIMALT VS HALIFAX??

Allthough not mentioned, I consider the people to be a major difference between East and West.  Ive spent time on both coasts, and there is a considerable difference between the way the two coasts think and act.  This includes organizational and personal attributes, and even extends to your...

    Question of the Hour

Geo, good answer, and correct enough to give you credit for the kill.  The Janes article your source refered to is from the 60s, and no longer current. A few small details to add to your answer. When she was commissioned by the Russians, she was indeed given the name of Kanada, but in 1920 she...

    Question of the Hour

HMCS CRUSADER has claim the trainbusting championship, http://navy.dwan.dnd.ca/english/refs/stories/crus.asp (doesnt come outright and say it) http://ussjohnrpiercedd753.com/history.htm  scroll to the bottom for the leader board.  Of note, the USN has the most kills. Much ado is made over the...

    Namibia

My Uncle Greg Carey was there, a WO EME type.  He even made the Sentinel - a picture of him in a bazaar of some sort.  He was the last fellow to lower the UN flag over Cdn compound and he kept it.  He gave it to me a few years back during his battle with cancer.

Help- Looking For Info on CHARLES CLAIR ROSHATTE- Died January 13, 1945

The best bet is national archives, but a quick search thru the internet kind of hones in on where he was at the time.  (taken from various sources, but the bulk from http://www.forces.gc.ca/dhh/downloads/cmhq/cmhq143.pdf (well worth the read.) During the period of 2-6 Jan 1945 the 5th Canadian...

Berets vs. ball caps, which do recruits wear?

"Stone frigate" is a nickname for a naval establishment on land. The term has its origin in Britain's Royal Navy, which until the late 19th century housed training and other support facilities in hulks — old wooden ships of the line — moored in ports as receiving ships, depot ships, or floating...
