yes and no....
there is some 9mm made, for quite some time, that is designed for sub-guns only, higher puressure then the original WWi pistol ammo. Think +p++, it can blow up a pistol or at the least wear it out very fast. Sub-guns can fire pistol ammo fine, but bad things can happen the other way around, especially is it's an older gun.
It's quite noticable in a sub-gun, for example a S&W-76 shooting pistol ammo was about 600 - 650 rds per minite, with sub-gun rated ammo, 700-750 and with some notiable punch down range, and more reliable feeding.
