Question for all in the know, but I've been hearing random rumours that Air Navigators are getting the trade's name changed.  Anyone able to confirm/refute this?  And what will the name be called?

I've heard "Airborne Warfare Officer", but that is just a dirty rumour at this point.  Makes sense as Nav's don't really do much Navin' anymore!

The last I heard was Airborne Combat Sensor Officer put I think it's still tentative

The new name put forward was "airborne combat systems officer"

I heard they were going to give them all lobotomies and then rename them all AESOPs....  ;D

I think the AES Op name is changing too so it should be available to them :D

Ahhh, that was it. We got some briefing about it on squadron but I couldn't remember the exact names. Too bad, AES Op has a certain flair :D

Actually ACSS sounds pretty cool :) but that's just me  :)

ACSS does sound cool, but without the "C" it now becomes A S S....  So what trade are you?  I'm an A S S

The last that I heard the ACSS was closed and they are going to be staying AESOp, at least for the near future.

Is there some particular requirement that calls for the name of the occupation to change?

Well, navigators hardly "navigate" anymore for one.

Two references to Navs where they are referred to as  EWOs.

Thats because they are employed as such. The term "navigator" is all but dead in practical terms. On an Aurora, 3 of the 4 "navigators" dont navigate anything.
