Hi,
My grandfather was with the CEF 75th Batt. and was wounded in France 8/11/1918, I have his army papers but am having difficulty finding out where or what battle he was in when he was wounded, the papers just show abbreviations I don't understand, can anyone help?
Thanks
Eddie

Check the unit War Diary for the date on which he was wounded. The CEF War Diaries are on-line at www.archives.ca

Are you writing day/month/year or month/day/year for 8/11/1918 could mean he was wounded during the Battle of Amiens (began on 8 August 1918) in which the 75th Battalion took part, or during the Pursuit to Mons, October/November 1918.

Eddie

email me through this link and I will give you a fax number which you can send me the casualty form and I can interpret it for you - dead simple.

Here is the translation

He arrived from Canada 27 May 1918

Sent to France 28 Sep 1918

Wounded 8 Nov 1918 ----- near the very end of the war

Back in UK at Witley Camp and in Hospital - looks like he took off 24th Dec 1918 and came back 30 Dec 18 for which he got 4 days pay taken off

He was still there in the UK on 26 mar 1919 - likely headed out through the Kinmel park Camp up in Rhyl Wales near Liverpool.

Where was he when he got wounded?

Better yet where was he probably? During his service in France. We can`t say exactly but we can show where the Canadians travelled in the 100 days of the end of the war

May - Aug 1918 - training in the Vimy Area
Aug 1918 - Nov 1918 from Just East of Amiens at Beaucourt en Santerre all the way to past Cambrai and into the Area of Valenciennes in eastern France - means he experienced the meat grinder operations of the 100 days advance - Here is where they were on 8 Nov 18 http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e045/e001120894.jpg
to go backwards - decrease the number eg: http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e045/e001120893.jpg
or add a number to see what they were doing when the war ended http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/e/e045/e001120895.jpg etc

It suggests he was hurt in a non-battle setting but I would have to look at the whole file to check that

See where he was on the attached image in ANZIN France which is NW of Valenciennes
