Hey guys got a question for ya! LOL Anyways what I want to know is if the army pays for me to goto university how much extra time do I have to put in?

I'm wanting to do a mechanical engineering degree, and apply for pilot. So how dose it work, if I get accepted to be a pilot? I'm currently in the army reserves and would be doing a CT to Reg Force. Would I be doing my pilot training at the same time as I go to school? Or would I only do my officer training, and wait to do the pilot training? Or would I even be doing anything while I'm going to school? I have herd rumours that you don't have to do anything while you go to school, if it's being payed by the CF, but I have a very hard time believing that! Anyways any info that ANYBODY with real stories or facts can give me would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Even though you're component transferring, I'm pretty sure you'll still have an officer entry plan, probably ROTP in which case you'll most likely go to RMC.   If you go to RMC you'll be doing all kinds of military related stuff after hours like drill and leadership classes. In any case, you'll be getting the degree before you start pilot training with the exception of Primary flight training (PFT), you'll do that during one of the summers while you're attending RMC. The other summers you'll be doing language school and OJT (on the job training at a Sqn). After you graduate you'll head off to Moose Jaw provided all went well on PFT.   The reason you don't do any pilot training during the summers is because Moose Jaw followed by advanced flying training can take 6 months or longer for each course and the summers are only 4 months. You can't stop and start the training.

There are other entry plans like DEO (you have a degree already) and CEOTP (you get in, start right into your training but you do the degree on your own time over your first 9 years, and you get reimbursed after you finish it), but you stated you want a degree paid for by the military so ROTP is about your only option and if you want mech eng, I guarantee you'll be going to RMC.

That's about all for entry plans that you'd be eligible for, there's also Commissioning from the ranks but that won't apply to you since you pretty much need to be a MWO or CWO.   There's also UTPNCM, it's only open to Reg force NCMs though and it's very competitive.

Cheers

If you are going to apply for ROTP, you can go right to CFRC to start the process, it is not like doing a CT.  If you are already going to University, you will most likely stay there to complete your education.  RMC will rarely transfer credits from another university.  Under ROTP Civ U, your full time job is to go to school for the CF, you will have very little contact except a liaison who will keep tabs on your marks and be available if you have any problems.  Your summers belong to the CF and that will be the time you do your training.  In the case of pilots, your obligatory service (7 years) starts after you complete flight school.  For any other occupation your service (5 years) starts after you complete your degree.  Lengths of service actually depend on the amount of time that you are subsidized.  Go to a CFRC, you might actually be able to talk with someone who has gone through this process.

You can apply for ROTP and go to a Civilian University to get your degree but you will be enrolling as an Officer, (MPO) not an NCM (MP).

You can remain a Reservist, get a small subsidy from them, finish your degree then CT to MP,

or remain in the Reserves, get Police Foundations out of the way, apply as MP, work towards a degree part time under partial subsidization from the CF and CFR at a later date.

The best thing for you to do is to visit a CFRC, sit down face to face with a recruiter and discuss your options.

Yeah thanks alot everybody for the information!

Cheers to you all!
