Actor Paul Walker and one other person were killed in a fiery vehicle crash Saturday in Valencia, the Associated Press reported. Representatives for Walker confirmed the news of his death on the actor’s social media accounts.

The actor “passed away in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide,” according to a post on Walker’s Facebook page. “He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives.”

News of his death was first reported by the website TMZ.

Walker, 40, was best known for his role in the “Fast and Furious” movie franchise. Universal Studios, which produced the films, issued a statement Saturday evening.

“All of us at Universal are heartbroken,” the statement said. “Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the ‘Fast and Furious’ films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul’s family.”

Sheriff’s deputies responded about 3:30 p.m. to the 28300 block of Rye Canyon loop, where they found a vehicle engulfed in flames, according to a statement issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, the statement said.

Two victims were located inside the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Department said.

An investigation into the cause of the collision was underway.

I heard about this on Facebook and initially passed it off like the Jackie Chan scam amongst other stars.

Its a sad day when anyone passes especially just before Christmas. Condolences to his daughter and family.

i thought the same thing, it was a hoax, until every news station was covering this. i didn't believe it until i saw it on CNN.

Well he is known for the Fast and Furious movies. So should I dare say at least his "exit" was ..... Well ..... "suiting" or "fitting"? (for lack of better wording)

Three of our brother soldiers took their own lives this week.

Do they get this kind of recognition in the press for their contributions?

My thoughts exactly.

I wouldn't call Paul Walker an "automotive icon"...not sure i would call him a movie icon either.  Sad for the family but as it has been said before there are a lot stuff way more important going on right now.

No.  They weren't celebrities.

Still on my first coffee and I've already hit my first "who cares" moment.  :boring:

Perhaps because they were not soldiers, is the reason that this is in Radio Chatter and not in Thoughts and Prayers.  Life does exist outside of your tiny sphere of existence.  Do you wish someone to post similar comments should a good friend or family member of yours, who is not military, die tragically in an auto accident?  Your comments on the lack of respect to our soldiers, just shows your lack of respect for others.  Get over it.
