Sorry I could'nt find the answer with any of my searches so I turn my question to you all...Why are detached "companies" of engineers called squadrons? ie; 31 CER has the 48th Fd sqn affiliated with it and so on.

"CHIMO"

There is probably a historical link to a 48 Fd Sqn in the SW Ontario area.  All engr regiments are composed of fd sqns.  In 31 CER you should find 311 Fd Sqn and 48 Fd Sqn.  In 1 CER you would find 11, 12, 13, and 14 Fd Sqn (pronounced one-one, one-two, one-three, and one-four respectively).
