Are there different types of fuel taps, if so which ones work best with the ol' Canteen cup & Burner Plate attachment, and is there any precautions/important stuff I should know?

The instructions also recommend not eating the fuel tabs...

very funny, there anything else   (Besides the info in the instruction manuals) and the obvious

fire.   what else?

the CF tabs are hexamine.   hexamine is a flammable chemical.   therefore, burning.

EDIT:  you know, it's not very nice to change your post after someone's replied to it :)

Darn you 48 Highlander.... you beat me to the sarcastic reply... by the way, they're carcenogenic because they're made from fromaldahyde...

Save the money and buy yourself a little 'whisper lite' stove. They fit nicely in your rucksack.

Well, if you're ever in toronto just drop by my place  ;D

The hexamine tabs are (as far as I know) being phased out and I don't know of any places that sell them.  Thos try-oxane tabs should work just as good though.

"Hexamine"

Trioxane and Hexamine are just two different types of fuel. The Canadian army issues Hexamine, and the American army issues Trioxane. Supposedly trioxane is slightly more efficient then hexamine, but they'll both do the job (Can't offer you a comparison, because I've only ever used trioxane)

You can always buy a can of Sterno at Stokes, Cdn Tire and any where they sell camping equipment or items for the dinning table like fondues.

One or two fuel tabs can be stored permanently in your webbing, you never know when it would come in handy in a pinch.

yes, but tired troopies EAT wayward fuel tabs..........

Whisperlites......not so good as a snack.

You're right though, they always come in handy. But I do believe they are, as stated above being phased out in favour of the new ration heaters.

The Sterno cans take a while to cool down, dont they?

Are you in a rush?

I remember guys blowing them out and packing them up a few minutes later.

It has been some time, but I doubt they would take too long to cool off.
