Hey guys, I would've thought this was already posted but after going through the search function discovered differently.

This is based on the novel Generation Kill "Devil Dogs, Iceman, Captain America and the New Face of American War" by Evan Wright. It was made by HBO and before anything else I have to say this was absolutely "amazing", it drew rave reviews and "every" episode was close to a perfect rating on the sites I have seen so far. It's about a Company of Recon Marines whom spearhead the invasion in Iraq and everything they've made was as accurate as they could possibly make it. The action is riveting and the special effects are amazing, although the first two episodes amp down on the action a bit it's well worth reaching the third up till the last episode. You see all sides of the war, the good and the very bad. The funny and the sad. It's all hear and well worth the time to watch.

Here's the wiki on it:

This runs on HBO Movie Central weekly but if you can't wait for that or the DVD release to watch the whole series you can come here to find every episode:

Although the upload speed is fairly slow.

I personally "loved it" and can't wait to get the DVD release, discuss :)

It's been on Movie central every night this week.  It rocks, absolutely kicks crap out of "Over There",  which was just 90210 with body armour.

Watched all 7 parts last month on TMN and concur it was really well done. (having some of the actual perons act as technical advisors and in one case playing himself helps too). TMN is rerunning it again later this month.

I picked up the book too and breezed through it in a few hours. Really well written and gives much more details especially regarding why some of the higher ups in the Bn were such idiots. Wright also tosses in a new post script on what happens to many of the characters after OIF.

managed to catch a few episodes on TMN although keep missing some will have to check the links out and catch up on missing episodes

Makes me kinda upset they only will make 7 episodes of this series, it was so well done!!

Its a good show, too bad its only seven episodes. The book is pretty slick too and goes into talking about other guys (i.e. Manimal). I found out the other day that Fruity Rudy is played by the real Fruity Rudy.

Was cool, my fav was the Sgt Major, what a prick, and then one of his last lines in the series was cool.

Not a bad series. The fact that some of the 'real' characters were tech advisors on the series impresses me. Less liklihood of hollywood's artistic types making things try to appear sexier than they really were.

Overall, well done.

I'll definitely miss this show, I know I won't see another one this good in a while.

Well, I just finished downloading every episode, so now I'll have to watch

I enjoyed the series despite my initial reservations. I just couldnt believe a Marine battalion had so many poor leaders. ;)

T6 I was wondering the same thing a first and wrote it off to typical Hollywood anti military bias. In the book thought Wright offers somewhat of an explanation.

As a Recon Bn they normlly operated in Pl or smaller sized units and i fact many including Iceman and Rudy did so in Afghanistan. Coy and Bn HQs were more rear area admin formations.  For this Op they were deployed /fought as a Bn sized formation. TH HQs were beefed up with new untested personal and the results are seen.

One glaring error in judgement was to send engineers out at night to mark a minefield which resulted in two serious injuries.

T6 we normally do a recee/marking/breaching of minefields at night so as to make us harder to be seen by the enemy.

It was unnecessary to mark the minefield at night at that point in time.It could have waited til first light.

Guess I should read the book or watch the movie  :-\

Dont worry, my reaction was the same when i saw T6s comment. But then again, why would you go mark a MF in broad daylight ?

After all an obstacle is covered by.............

When the order came down to provide an escort of Marines for the two engineers, evrn the Marines didnt like the order.Combat operations were over and there wasnt an imperative to mark the minefield in a field off the road. After the engineers triggered a mine they were evacuated to a field hospital and there were no further attempts to complete that mission. Hence my reaction that there wasnt an urgency to the mission. Having not read the book perhaps I missed something.
