Well, it looks like Helena Guergis isn't going to have a lot of political backup when she runs as an independent......

Change comes to Simcoe County

Guergis "dynasty" swept off the map

By Kate Harries AWARE Simcoe October 26 2010
The electorate has chosen change – a new brand of leaders who have promised to listen to the people, care for the environment and be prudent with our tax dollars.
Yesterday’s municipal election was a significant victory for the hundreds of county residents who rose up against Site 41, who fought for a new approach to waste management and who organized across the County under the AWARE Simcoe banner for transparency, sustainability and fiscal accountability.

The Guergis “dynasty” – standard bearers for  dealings, over-the-top spending and an arrogant disregard for regular folks – has been swept off the map.
GONE: Springwater Mayor Tony Guergis, three-time warden, resoundingly rejected by the voters of Springwater.
GONE: Essa Mayor David Guergis, whose campaign against the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority was entangled with his family’s property dealings.
GONE: Their cousin, Christine Brayford, sister to MP Helena Guergis, defeated in her bid for deputy mayor in New Tecumseth.
Here are the new leaders:
IN: Midland Mayor-elect Gord McKay, chair of Zero Waste Simcoe, who fought hard during the county’s waste management strategy process for the new approaches that must be implemented if we are not to drown in our own garbage.
IN: Innisfil Mayor-elect Barb Baguley, a tough operator who won’t be phased by developers or administrators. She beat Gord Wauchope, the old-guard chair of the waste management strategy subcommittee who was tasked with heading off effective Zero Waste measures.
IN: Tiny Mayor-elect Ray Millar, whose intimate knowledge of how municipal politics works was forged by years on the Site 41 front lines.
IN: Essa Mayor-elect Terry Dowdall, who took on the Guergises on their home turf and never stooped to fear-mongering or distortion.

Helena Guergis sues Stephen Harper over ejection from the Tory caucus

OTTAWA — Former federal cabinet minister Helena Guergis is suing Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Conservative party, and several other people for $1.3 million in connection with her 2010 ejection from the Tory caucus over allegations of improper conduct.

The lawsuit, filed in an Ottawa court Thursday, comes after a lengthy period in which Guergis publicly complained she had been mistreated by her former boss and political colleagues.

Now, as the plaintiff in a civil lawsuit, she is seeking compensation for the damage which she alleges those actions inflicted on her public reputation.

Specifically, with regards to the actions of Harper, a 31-page statement of claim entered in court by her lawyers seeks damages from the prime minister for his alleged “conspiracy, defamation, misfeasance in public office, intentional infliction of mental suffering, and negligence.”

None of the allegations contained in the statement of claim has been proven in a court.

Among those sued along with Harper are two of his senior aides, a Conservative party lawyer, a private investigator who came forward with an allegation about the conduct of Guergis, and two Tory MPs.

Together, the statement of claim alleges those being sued conspired to present allegations about her behaviour — including fraudulent activity, extortion, association with prostitutes, and cocaine use.

All the allegations are false and defamatory and have “resulted in damage to the plaintiff’s reputation,” as well as her “political career, health, and well-being,” says the statement of claim.

Guergis was formerly in Harper’s cabinet as minister of state for the status of women. But that ended suddenly in April of 2010 when Harper announced that his office had become aware of “serious allegations” regarding her conduct which he was forwarding to the RCMP and Ethics Commissioner.

Guergis was booted from the cabinet and the Tory caucus, and the party removed her thereafter as its candidate for the next election in the southern Ontario riding of Simcoe-Grey.

I wonder if her legal team is the same as Jean Chretien's ala sponsorship scandal ruling.

She's probably hoping for a settlement of some kind.  Last night on CTV they said she didn't have much of a  chance.  I for one feel no sympathy for her.  Looks like a sorry x-mas for her and her family.

I hope we don't have to pay her out like Mulroney and then find definitive proof years later. That was absolutely treasonous. Shameless politicians.

The spurious lawsuit is just modern society's version of buying lottery tickets.  ::)

Maybe this should be moved to the dumbest thing said today.
