REGINA -- The American ambassador to Canada is emphasizing that there is no plan to deploy National Guard troops along the U.S. northern border to improve security.
David Wilkins says President George W. Bush's plans to improve border security with Mexico have nothing to do with Canada.
Earlier this week, Bush called for improvements in manpower and technology along the U.S.-Mexico border, including sending in 6,000 troops in support roles.
Administration officials left the door open to something similar along the Canadian border if requested by the governors of northern states.
But Wilkins says Bush's speech was focused solely on Mexico and Canadians need not be worried that similar plans are in the works for the northern border.
Wilkins is in Regina meeting with provincial politicians and giving a speech to the Saskatchewan Trade Export Partnership.
