Islamic Terrorism in the West ( Mega thread)

We also haven’t been above replacement birth rate since 1971, so this isn’t a new issue for Canada. This isn’t just millennials not having kids, this is multiple generations actively making that decision from baby boomer down.

Yup...

Immigrants make up the largest share of the population in over 150 years and continue to shape who we are as Canadians

Canada has a long history of immigration. Millions of people from all over the world have chosen, and continue to choose, Canada as their new home. In 2021, more than 8.3 million people, or almost one-quarter (23.0%) of the population, were, or had ever been, a landed immigrant or permanent resident in Canada. This was the largest proportion since Confederation, topping the previous 1921 record of 22.3%, and the highest among the G7.

Given that the population of Canada continues to age and fertility is below the population replacement level, today immigration is the main driver of population growth. If these trends continue, based on Statistics Canada's recent population projections, immigrants could represent from 29.1% to 34.0% of the population of Canada by 2041.

Meter's still not down to zero on folks alleged to be heading to ISIS-ville ....

I'm obviously not racist, but feel I should specify that right off the bat anyway...

I think we need go start being a lot more 'narrow' in terms of what populations we want to have immigrate here.

I have absolutely no problem was folks from India. No problem at all. My best neighbours have usually always been from India, and the last 2 or 3 times I needed to have my car pushed off an icy patch it was East Indians ghat stopped to help.

Generally speaking, they hold themselves to a high standard. Hence the number of East Indian doctors & nurses we have.

I find our cultures blend together fairly well, and until this recent Canada-India bullshit started, they tend to be an immigrant group that assimilates into Canadiab culture quite well while still maintaining their own.

...those Palestinians tho...

There's a reason why Egypt had just made their border wall higher & more reinforced over the last year, and why Jordan said a clear 'F**k No!' when the world was looking at where to send refugees from Gaza...

In terms of the topic thread, all one has to do is look at the Rally infront of the Vancouver library or just the other day in a Montreal train station to see the dangers these groups pose to the general public (re individual acts of terrorism, or mass gatherings to put a stall on public life)

When their calls for 'Death to Canada' are met with cheers from the crowd, surely it isn't lost on anybody paying attention that this isn't good.

Declaring one of these groups as a terrorist organization sounds great and all, but what does that actually do in terms of fixing the problem practically??

Are we deporting these individuals promptly? Are they being monitored by the relevant intelligence & law enforcement agencies? Are their associations being noted and logged?

I imagine CSIS is doing its thing, and the CSE is doing its thing.

But what is preventing these organizations from still meeting up, just in locations that are less public? Or in private residences?

If being labelled as a terrorist organization doesn't come with a tangible, practical consequence (such as immediate detention and deportation), than it seems like labelling them as such is moreso just aomething we do to make ourselves feel better, or feel safer, than ACTUALLY doing something to help keep people safer...

Am I missing something about the current situation? (I actually have no experience and very very limited knowledge of what tangible consequences come with locals being labelled a terrorist group)

I know some of you were skepticle about my 'wild and crazy' prediction of where this is all headed, but the more this nonsense unfolds the more confident I am in that prediction.

Remember - "train hard, because tomorrow might not be practice."

And then there are the Irish ;)

'America's always had a love-hate relationship with immigration'

But historically, did those waves of earlier immigrants face similar fear mongering as what you describe is happening today?

Absolutely. The Irish who came in the 1800s were greeted with 'No Irish Need Apply' signs. In 1882, the federal government enacted the so-called Chinese Exclusion Act which specifically forbade further immigration of Chinese people to America.

In 1924, the federal government enacted the National Origins Act which set quotas for Italians and Eastern Europeans so that they could exclude largely Jewish immigrants.

America has always had a love-hate relationship with immigration. On the one hand, we have the Statue of Liberty telling us that we welcome the poor, the tired, the huddled masses. On the other hand we have a long tradition of prejudice and laws designed to keep immigrants out.

Fair points. Why are we allowing them to come here and perpetuate their problems from their native country in ours?

The reality that no Muslim nation will accept Palestinian refugees has not sunk in with our Government. No Muslim nation will accept Palestinians because of their history of creating chaos and violence. The King of Jordan had to use his military to forcibly expel Palestinians in 1970, because they were starting a Civil War in Jordan. When Iraq invaded Kuwait, Palestinians in Kuwait backed the Iraqi invasion. Kuwait expelled all Palestinians after the Gulf War. Look at Lebanon, once the Paris of the East, and we find Palestinians once again started a Civil War. They are a cancer wherever they migrate. They raise their children to be terrorists. They have been a knife in the back of Israel now, for over five decades.

I imagine CSIS is doing its thing, and the CSE is doing its thing.

Just to be nitpicky, CSE is pretty constrained there. Their enabling legislation does not permit them to target Canadians for intelligence collection. Some incidental collection of information over which Canadians have a reasonable expectation of privacy is permitted, but not deliberate targeted intelligence collection. ‘Canadians’ includes permanent residents.

Doesn’t mean they’re necessarily out of the mix, but in the security intelligence world they play the away games, and the home games are mostly the Service.
