Keeping your e-mail address current

All,

I wanted to post a friendly reminder that it's important for you to keep the e-mail address associated with your account here current. There are a few reasons:

• We NEVER send out spam, sell or share your contact information. Despite the fact that it could generate a lot of revenue for the site, I am dead set against this and will never share your account information. The account database has never been compromised, and I take security very seriously, so please know that your account information is treated with the utmost respect here.
• You may miss out on important site notifications. When you subscribe to a thread or someone sends you a PM, you will not be notified.
• When your email address is wrong, notification emails are bounced. And they are bounced back to me. Not only does this clog up my inbox, but it becomes a privacy concern. I make a point not to read these bounced messages in case they are Private (sic) Messages but it is sometimes difficult to tell what might be a bounce from a message I have sent and what might simply be an incorrect user address here.
• You can be locked out of your account. Password resets (forgotten or lost passwords) use your email address to send you a new activation link. If your address is no longer valid, you'll never get that activation email and will be forever locked out of your account. Kiss that MilPoints balance goodbye.
• It may allow others to hijack your account. If you don't own the email address associated with your account, someone else might.
• At some point in the future, I plan to purge accounts with invalid addresses. Inactive accounts are dead weight and there is a long outstanding item on my to do list to purge them. Everyone will be notified via their registered e-mail addresses well in advance, but if your account is out of date you may miss the notification.

With all these reasons in mind, please take a quick look at your profile and if your address is out of date, please fix it.
