Are there any Maine independence groups?

Split as it is completely off topic for your original thread.

Surpisingly, there is at least one Maine separatist group called the "The Second Maine Militia".  This and a (presumed accurate) listing of other North American seperatist/independence groups can be found here:

A quick look at the charter of many of these groups shows this is a branch of Libertarianism; the goal is to split away from an overly large and intrusive government and resize institutions to match the scale of local issues and concerns.

This is only a small step removed from the concept of "micronations" (i.e. claiming or creating a country from scratch, usually on an island or platform outside of claimed territorial waters), and somewhat more ambitious than working within the confines of the political system with a Libertarian political party (or more practically, joining and working with a Conservative/Republican organization, depending on what country you are in).

Of course, lots of people would like a pony too........

Cape Breton doesnt want independence it just wants to be its own province.

true i was refering to its independence from Nova scotia. Jsut go to a tourist shop, you'll see tshirts proclaiming it as canada's 11th province

There is some historical precedent here. Not just for Maine but most of New England. During the War of 1812, the level of discontent in New England was high enough for published calls for secession, Also the activities of Ethan Allen in Vermont are worthy of note.
