I am currently awaiting paperwork to fill out from the Government of Canada for the medical use of Marajuana.  Before you pull the judgment trigger too early, please set all of your personal opinions of the stigma which surrounds Marajuana aside for a moment and listen.

I'm quite new to this Army still, serving three years and counting as a Grease Monkey in Edmonton.  I have worked my ass off in those three years and I love what I do with a passion and don't plan on retiring if I can help it anytime soon.  Fate happend to have a different plan on my behalf in the Summer of 2008; I suffered a spinal cord injury.  I suffer from chronic pain over a year later and am on some pretty potent pain killers "Oxycontin". After countless trips to the doctors, physiotherapists.  So far this is the only medication that takes the pain away at the cost of all of the side effects including everything peptol bismol is suppose to take care of.  To this date, the pain and aggravation has not let up if not become worse over time. "Degeneration" as the doctors call it.  I have been searching with the help of the good doctors here as well as physicians down town for a better treatment plan as I especially cannot see a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle ahead of me with the current prognosis.  In my research using the best tool known to man, "Google", I came across many many sites in relation to the use of Marajuana for Spinal cord injury's, and other ailments.

While researching the use of Marajuana for medical perposes, I also came across a newsletter stating that Veterans Affairs Canada will be providing coverage for approved and licenced members.  Is this really true, I will be calling them tomorrow and will report back an answer.

I am here to just get as much support from anyone who can help me, I feel that there may be light at the end of this tunnel.  Please feel free to email me as well if you have any pertinent info that pertains to my situation.

I do hope that this article will receive some due attention as I feel it is important to get the information out, without having to dig too deep and know that you're not alone.

Thanks, Sean

This info from Strike:

My sister also has chronic back pain due to advanced arthritis in her case.  She went through the whole rigamarole of morphine, oxycontin, etc and is now on methadone as the side effects are not as bad.  However, she still does have bad days which are not only painful but affect her appetite as well, which is why she (sparingly) relies on pot.

Her doctors have recommended that she try the THC pill and is considering it for when she travels.  A little easier to deal with a pill than a little baggie, even if it is prescribed.  Her only concern is that the amount of THC in the pill is likely a higher dose than what she gets when she takes two puffs of her pipe.

Anyway, with all that in mind, have you also considered the THC pill?  It may be more than you need depending on your current marijuana use (not saying that you ARE using right now, without a 'script  ;D)  but it is a worthwhile alternative, especially if you are travelling.

Krafty has submitted this information as to his progress in this matter:

I did contact VAC today at 1-866-522-2122 (English) ,1-866-522-2022 (French)
Members must obtain approval from Health Canada before sourcing VAC for assistance.  VAC will only recognize the approval by Health Canada.  Each case is reviewed individually and only applicants with the proper credentials will qualify.  (lots of paper work I'm sure).
