Hey guys,

So was reading up on the Canadian Forces Small Arms Concentration (CFSAC), and Bisley Cup, etc...and got me wondering, who/how decides who competes at the CFSAC?  Are there teams for every base, are there teams for every unit, how does one go about getting on teams? Do teams get extra range time/training?

I've been wanting to get more into marksmanship/shooting for quite some time, but haven't heard anything hear at good ol circus bn.

Oh and almost forgot, how does the CFSAC and Bisley relate to CISM shooting competitions?

Probably because of lot of the answers you are looking for are regional (or what unit you are part of), I think. Where are you located?

I don't know how it runs in Pet, but in the west the team is put together before the competition.

2 years ago, a call from LFWA went out to units, stating that there would be a selection and training camp. Units put up the names of people who were interested, they went, shot, people were selected, and those chosen remained and trained.

For CFSAC, the teams are by Area. Any unit shooting team I know of here shoot on their own time, own dime. However last year, the unit had some of us who had shot CFSAC before run a pre-selection to chose who would go on to further team selections, and gave us a bunch of rounds and time.

Your best bet, if they have one in Pet, hook up with someone from the Base shooting club, and ask your Ops people if there's a Bde Op Order out for CFSAC Selection.

I worked with a few cats from Pet at CFSAC, and at one of the ORA competitions this summer.

My understanding is they had try-outs at some point, then the team stood up in May. Their Mon-Fri gig from May to Sep was shooting all day in prep for CFSAC. So my guessing is that timelines for this tasking won't begin until the spring.

I'll chime in with some info on this when I have some time....probably later this evening.
