I strat my BMQ in just over a month and I have been running mostly to get myself into shape, running 10k in roughly an hour, my situps are lacking, as i can do about 25-30 in one go before breaking for a quick rest and about 25-35 pushups in the same fashion, in all honesty how am I going to fare in the BMQ?? I am still training every day to push myself to meet and exceed the prerequisits. Just an honest opinion from a current member would be much appreciated, thanks much!

You will do fine. In fact, you will likely be annoyed at the soft bodies who make the caterpillar effect. Remember, it is a game, and have fun!

Sigger is right on.  I sometimes think that folks get a little too worked up about BMQ, particularly the fitness part.  Keep in mind that although you will be tested on BMQ and pushed to your limits and beyond, we do prepare you for that test.  It is not in the CF's best interest to fail everybody.  It is much better to make sure everybody passes and we do that, not by lowering standards, but raising you up to meet them.  Does this mean you should stop all personal fitness training now?  Absolutely not!  The last thing you want is to show up at BMQ with floppy bits and a severe case of doughnut withdrawal, but by the same token, you don't have to be a tri-athlete either.  Keep doing what you're doing and you will be fine.  People of average fitness should be OK.

In my own personal situation, I was like you - 10km in about an hour and the in same vicinity with push-ups and sit-ups.  On my course, I found myself slowing down so as not to run away from the platoon and I actually gained weight because I wasn't getting enough exercise!

Thanks very much for both comments! I have been told that I am working myself up but I want to be the best that I can be before I go to make it a little easier on myself while I am there. Quite worried about the grip test. I have got obvious ways to prepare for my pushups and situps and even the grip test but I can't prepare for the VO2 Max or accuratly measure my beep test.

I find it kind of odd though that almost every person has told me it's a game. I played football for 14 years all the way to the CJFL and THAT was a game. I don't quite understand how this could be haha, I guess I'll find out when I get there!

It's a game in the sense that if you play along (i.e. don't get flustered) you will succeed.  Some very ordinary people do just fine in basic training, while some others (mostly those who think too highly of themselves) crash and burn.  The most important rule of the game is to play by THEIR rules (i.e. pay attention and do things exactly as you are told).  BMQ is no time to question the whys and the wherefores.  Just do it regardless of whether you think it makes sense.  Don't analyze it.  You will have plenty of opportunity later in your career to think outside the box and find new solutions to problems.  BMQ is not that time.

It's also a game in that there is a script.  Regardless of whether your locker layout is perfect the first time, the DS will find fault (I once saw a sergeant kick the crap out of a radiator in order to find some dust).  You can lay out your locker exactly the same way for the entire course, but it will only be "perfect" later.  You will be confined to barracks at least once because they're a s**t pit, but the reality is that you were going to be confined to barracks anyway.  The state of them was actually irrelevant.  On another occasion, you will "just barely make it" and the DS will relent and decide to let you go on the weekend.  And the list goes on...

In short, they're trying to stress you out (warfare being a tad stressful).  As long as you don't take it personally and learn to adapt and overcome, you will be fine.

Ah, that makes perfect sense!! Thank you very much for the info, I am relatively good at taking orders  thankfully so we shall see! Your information and opinions are very much appreciated!
