Hello, i'm wondering if you have a red seal qualification in a certain trade (mine being automotive) do you still have to write the aptitude test? i will be applying for a vehicle technician, i may have gotten the wrong information but i thought i read somewhere if you have a journeyman qualification you can move on through. Again  this could be 100% wrong. I don't want to call the recruiter if this is a stupid question I've been searching around the web for hours now and i can't seem to find my answer. Has anyone dealt with this before?

Aptitude test is a requirement of all applicants even if you are qualified for a trade.

Regardless of your civilian qualifications, you will still need to write the CFAT and TSD, so I would suggest you start studying now!  Nothing worse than holding civilian qualifications and then not meeting minimum standards during the testing stage.

"If" you are successful during the testing and selected for further processing, you will need to provide "all" certificates of your civilian qualifications, as these will need to be assessed (ie; PLAR).

Good luck!

Edit - the assessment of your civilian qualifications (ie; the PLAR) will determine just which portions of your initial occupation training will be granted.  Chances are you will have to do some but probably not all of it.

What you're talking about is semi-skilled or skilled entry plan, in which you bypass some/all of your initial trades training because you've got civilian quals. Everyone does the CFAT, and you must pass the Veh Tech score.

It's not a stupid question, it is definitely worth asking a recruiter. As stated, everyone has to do the aptitude test, but you may be able to skip other training and/or be eligible for accelerated promotions and stuff like that. It is worth asking a recruiter about, how could anybody expect you to just "know?"

Please don't be intimidated by the idea of writing an aptitude test. It would be a real shame to lose a good candidate that already has experience/training over something like that.

It's been a few years since i was last in school and that was technical training school, we did do a lot math wise dealing with thousands of a inch, but like anything you have the ability to learn. Time to dust off the high school math books!
