MOSCOW - Several foreign governments are urging their citizens to get out of Iraq as a wave of abductions continues to spread across the country.

Russia's largest contractor said on Tuesday it's pulling all 370 staff from Iraq. Tekhpromexport had been building a power station in the country.

A spokesperson for Russia's foreign ministry said the department would help any Russian firms that want to leave Iraq.

France and Portugal urged all of their citizens to leave Iraq and warned against travel to the country. Germany issued a similar warning on Monday. Britain and Canada both have issued advisories against travel to Iraq.

The following people are still missing or being held:

Four Italian security guards abducted April 13.

Three Czech television journalists reported April 11.

Four Italians; two Americans seized Friday April 9.

American contract worker Thomas Hamill seized April 9.

Palestinian Israeli aid worker Nabil George Razuq taken on April 8.

Three Japanese citizens abducted April 8.

Canadian aid worker Fadi Fadel taken April 7.

Four Italian security guards working in Iraq were reported missing on Tuesday. Italy's foreign ministry said the civilians worked for the U.S.-based DTS Security company.

The Arab television network Al-Jazeera aired videotape of machine gun toting men standing around the Italians, who were holding their passports.

Earlier in the day, a group of Ukrainian and Russian energy workers were released after being taken hostage on Monday. The five Ukrainians and three Russians worked for the Russian company Interenergoservis.

In Jordan, Canada's ambassador held a news conference on Tuesday to stress that captured aid worker Fadi Fadel is Canadian, and not an Israeli agent, as Arab television has reported. John Holmes showed copies of Fadel's passport to Jordan's media.

Fadel, who was working for the aid group International Rescue Committee, was abducted from the city of Kufa on April 7.

On Monday, Iraqi militants released at least 16 hostages.

Some Iraqi groups have claimed to be holding dozens more foreign hostages, but the reports have not been confirmed.
