Ukraine - Superthread

I mean, it's basically been going on since 2014 already. It hasn't improved in that time 🫣
Agreed.
My earlier comment should have been more specific to periods of intense multi national fighting. Some may argue it started in 2008…

Conflicts can carry on for a while and civil strife, but I’d say nothing at the same scale as this since the Korean War

Peter Zeihan was on Rogan last month, I didn't agree with everything he said but he pointed out that Russia needs to win this war! Russia historicly thinks nothing of losing 500,000 men in any war they enter. They also have a history of doing poorly in the beginning then rallying and coming back stronger. He claimed Russia typically saves its better troops and equipment for the second push. I hope he is wrong this time but I fear this is going to be a long bloody war.

Putin's latest meetings with China are likely him securing a supply of parts that he can't get because of sanctions. China needs to bleed the west dry of weapons and incite war weariness for their push in the east. Which once started I don't believe it will end with Taiwan.

That was a great podcast

Given that some Ukrainians have been farming with Putin's lot, Hitler's lot, Stalin's lot, the Red Army and the White Army interfering with their planting schedules I think it is fair to say that. And that is just personal recollections - not the collective tribal memory.

Perun touched on this point in one of his latest videos , however what is different this time is that Russia does not have the population or birthrate to replace the losses.

This is cool. Ukrainian refugees in Canada getting hired at the Roshel plant, building APCs to send back home. The company even has a plan to employ some of them back in Ukraine for long term sustainment of the fleet once they can return home.

As I posted elsewhere that plant gave me an industrial management headache. It's just a custom body shop..not an assembly or manufacturing plant.

The big question how the hell did they get such a big contract so fast? I get it need it fast. But the follow on ordered could have been fast bid to the other 5 upfitters in Country that use F550s to make thecsamething. Although i did read Inkas is using there UAE factory instead of the GTA area plant to supply Ukraine. Me thinks someone's in with the current government. 10 percent to the big guy or in Canada's case the little guy.

As I understand after Canada bought the first 8 a number of European countries banded together and order another 92 for Ukraine so the Ukrainians already have a relatively large number in service. It's probably easier to settle on one type rather than have 5 different F550 conversions.

Just finished listening Julia Masons Morning (Sirius XM) and she was interviewing Rear Admiral (ret'd) John Kirby (Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House) and one of things Kirby mentioned is that later today the US will making an announcement on AD systems for Ukraine. Will be interesting to see what that entails.

Joe sounded like he needed a lot more weed when Peter told him this was only the opening phase of a multi-year conflict.
