Ukraine - Superthread

So Russia runs into US UAV and Ukraine gets anywhere from 20 to 40 Mig29's. Your move Russia
That’s my thought. Fighters have been something Ukraine’s been pushing for for months and months with no success and no evident reason why not other that NATO willpower. Russia fucks around and very suddenly, coincidentally, finds out.

The open (versus previous surreptitious ‘parts kit’) transfer of fighter jets is a significant move down the chess board. The next obvious question will be “ok, now there’s these jets, so why not those jets?”

I can empathize with a man holding the line for 8 yea re and watching his people die getting to the point that he has to say something.

At the same time I can see why his command wouldn't like him making his thoughts public.

They messed up if they demoted him. Extended leave and a medal would be a better response.
Agreed. At least he didn't get the Norman/Fortin treatment by his government.

A process that can be accelerated if the Ukrainians can be introduced to NATO ish Glass Cockpits via the new MiG 29s. Add in the "NATO" conversion courses in the US and the UK and the Dutch and the Danes offering up their F16s and Finland its F18s and 2024 could be different.

Don't we have some old Aussie F18s lying about?

According to Oryx Ukraine has lost

18 Mig-29
15 Su-24
16 Su-25
8 Su-27

and Ukraine started with around

43 Mig-29
12 Su-24
17 Su-25
27 Su-27

leaving Ukraine with

25 Mig-29
-3 Su-24
1 Su-25
21 Su-27

Bulgaria was rumoured to have transferred 8 Su-25 but I think have denied that and there were around half a dozen Azerbaijani Mig-29s in Ukraine at the start of the war that one wonders about plus the various "parts and supplies". In the end I am curious how many flyable aircraft Ukraine actually has and how amazing that they are still in the game

I think there is more to the story about the "parts" deliveries. LOL

Weren't there stories early on about "parts deliveries" that amounted to "hey we have some airplane parts for you... they just happen to be all assembled together in the shape of an airplane, so we'll fly it over"...?

Wow, that’s excellent.

Functionally it means Putin cannot travel to any country that’s a signatory to the Rome statute, or he would face arrest.

Hypothetically, were he later no longer president and found himself in ill favour with whoever succeeds him, it could have implications on where he might seek asylum. Same goes for any other senior officials named.

ICC generally limits itself to very senior political and military leadership.

Hypothetically some countries will even do bag jobs to drop folks on a doorstep.

Pretty hefty sack needed there though.

Yeah. It offsets countries that ignore ICC warrants; see, for example, Omar Al-Bashir.

More than $25million though. Has caused way more destruction and deaths worldwide not just Ukraine. Besides he would just buy iff his kidnappers out of petty cash. $100million maybe.
