Ukraine - Superthread

That's a page straight out of Stalin's playbook, kill off the intellectuals so they can't cause you problems...
He's done his best to kill off the leadership of the Army (which would be the greatest source of a threat to him and his leadership.)

Stalin in his purges of the '30s would have been hard pressed to see success like this, in a way that cannot be directly linked back to him.

"Those officers died in service to the Rodina, I had nothing to do with killing them."

And yet.

The outcome is the same...he has purged the officer corps...

Why would the UK even bother sending DU rounds to UKR?

I have not detected that the UKR have had much of a penetration problem, thus far, against Russian tanks with “mundane” ammo.

Plus, why would the UKR want to pollute up the landscape that they, presumably, want back?

Maybe all that is considered minor compared to….you know…

…Chernobyl. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Because they're burning through tank rounds like my teenager goes through PopTarts?

Except for the whole "we need more rounds" problem? Mundane or DU, rounds that exit the gun are being spent, and if youre lucky one is going to kill the enemy.

DU does a fantastic job of limiting the rounds needed for a tank kill.

Take a look around most of Eastern UKR, and it's already FUBAR for the next 25 years between UXO, mines, and Env damage caused by vehicle kills.

The remediation of Ukraine is wholly dependent on Ukraine still existing a week/month/year/ decade from now. If keeping the tanks firing and killing Russians is what will allow that remediation to happen down the road, so be it.

DU rounds will be able to penetrate past the frontal armor of most RU tanks, especially those with ERA. It's about assuring the first short kills the Russian tanks

Are the Challenger 2 guns not rifled, in contrast with the Leopard, Abrams etc? That must have some impact on ammunition interchangeability, and availability of suitable Challenger 2 rounds?

Yeah Chally uses and entity different family of ammo. Separate loading projectile, charge bag, and primer. The primers (called vent tubes) are in a mag so that speeds up loading.
