Very interesting article here with regards to a very unconventional commander in WW2. I did a quick search and only found one oblique reference under question of the day. I clipped just two paragraphs to highlight.  Enjoy

Tommy's flotilla of MTBs was based on Vis, off Yugoslavia. In 10 days, six MTBs sank or captured 24 armed enemy ships. Tommy thumbed his nose at torpedo warfare. He ignored it. His modus operandi was to ram, board, capture and tow the prize back to port.

He said his torpedo officer "couldn't fire a torpedo and hit the side of a Woolworth building." On one return trip from England he filled his torpedo tubes with of potatoes because of a shortage on Vis.
