41 Canadian Brigade Group
HQ: Calgary, Alberta.

Historical Information

During the Second World War, 41 Brigade was established in Military District 13 (Alberta and the western portion of the Northwest Territories) to administer the Reserve Army. The Brigade was formed on 1 Apr 1942 and disbanded on 30 Jan 1946. After disbandment, the 18th Infantry Brigade was created to administer reserve units in the MD. In September 1954, the Brigades were reorganized and redesignated as Militia Groups, with Number 22 Militia Group and Number 23 Militia Group administering the Reserves in Alberta. In 1969, following the report of the Suttie Commission, the Militia Groups were disbanded in favour of 21 Militia Districts grouped into 5 Militia Areas, with Northern Alberta Militia District and Southern Alberta Militia District coming under Prairie Militia Area.

In 1997, Canada once again organized reserve units into Reserve Brigades.
