    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

PA: We're going to close on the enemy ship'. Checks Union booklet. Putting a gun on a civilian ship doesn't make it a military ship.

    Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

I saw an interesting graphic on another forum showing Melbourne closer to Antarctica than Darwin.

    Replacing the Subs

Until it goes 'bzzzzt' in the middle of the ocean. Even with remote monitoring, an Enbridge crew is likely no more than an hour or two away and nobody is going be shooting at them enroute.

Trudeau Popularity - or not. Nanos research

1042/18 You mean Private Member Bills? According to the Canadian Parliamentary Review, between Jan 1994 and Oct 2000 (four sittings) there were 1042 PMBs introduced in the House; a grand total of 18 received Royal Assent. Not a great track record. Pushing for legislation that is in direct...

Canada doesn’t matter to the rest of the world - and it’s our own fault

That article is dated. The bulk or all of the RoF is now owned by Wayloo Metals out of Australia. I haven't been following it that closely but I think they are back to a road link. Higher operating costs but lower up front. I've travelled around up there and can't imagine how they intend to...

The blackflies are pretty bad right now. Then again, it would demonstrate commitment.

    King Charles III

I think we got a little spoiled with a Head of State who started her reign in her 20s as opposed to the King who is in his 70s and, as you say, now complicated with health issues.

    King Charles III

As like most other things, there is the persistent need to mean something to everyone, which ends up being we mean nothing to anyone. Or, to put it another way, make sure there is no possible way anyone can take the slightest offence to anything, no matter how obscure, because if something...

High Ranking Police Folk Allegedly Behaving Badly

I can't comment on their findings because I don't know the questions and responses, but can say that, until a couple of years ago I was still fairly connected to the OPP even though I retired in the early 2000s, and that "bullying and harassment" are often in the eye of the beholder. To be...

Yes, and it seems the Indian government has criminalized advocating separatism.

    Liberal Minority Government 2021 - ????

I agree. Provincially, northern Ontario - very resource-based blue collar - is traditionally very strong for the NDP. Less so federally. I think voters who lean more to social justice/environmental issues, particularly younger voters, will tend to vote NDP, at least for a few years. Some...

Sikh & India (Alleged) Shenanigans in Canada (split fm Non-Muslim terr thread)

I think this is key. Calling somebody a "criminal" and actually being one are two different things, and sometimes the scope of "criminal" is a tad elastic. This is a country that, every time they have a train wreck, the first thing they do is arrest the crew.

    Current Dress Regs

My favourite example is an Ontario government building I worked out of. A contractor was in re-sealing the windows and another contractor was in replacing the windows that has just been re-sealed. One literally chased the other around the building.

    Hamas invaded Israel 2023

Ya, apologies for not running background checks on the folks you referenced. My bad. The fact that there might be some noteworthies and intellectuals who take a different view of the Israeli government should come as no surprise to anyone. The Jewish people, like any other society or culture...
