U.S. Annexing Canada (split fm Liberal Minority thread)

Is this the result of prancing around the world like high minded sanctimonious priests of soft power, telling everyone how much better we are at democracy and such?

I think it's more a fact that Canada and Canadians have had their heads in the sand about since our creation.

Partially yes. No one likes to be told they are doing things wrong, especially from a ponce who has never experienced anything other than the fawning attention of his "fan bois".

To me the striking feature of all this is the lack of reaction from our allies and friends.

We seem to be well and truly alone.
I agree. Other countries have stood up alone in the face of impending aggression by larger nations. This is where we have to show if we have any backbone. We’ve had it too easy for too long.

The silence from our fellow commonwealth members and other allies is deafening. And of course the King can say nothing unless requested to do so by our PM. I certainly don’t think we should be asking, begging or complaining to any of the above. But we should remember and govern ourselves accordingly when the shoe is on the other foot.

Countries don't have friends, only interests. This should be a lesson hard learned by the current unpleasantness with our closest ally neighbour. All those others whom we once counted in our corner (including the "mother country" where our head of state lives) are either waiting to see what their interests will be once the dust settles or have already determined that maintaining their relationship (whether good, bad or indifferent) with the USA is in their interests at the moment.

Maybe we should ask if any of the border states wants to join Canada as a new province. Would be interesting to see the discussion. Might shut Trump up about the whole "51st State" nonsense. Not going to happen of course, but would be interesting to if there would be any states interested in the idea.

We need to tone down the rhetoric not add to the issue. And by 'we' I mean both sides of the fence, us and the US.

"We" should mean politicians and media. Because that is who is inflaming this far out of proportion.

Personally I don't think the US is really going to invade with a military force.

If it were there would be indications - like the massing of troops in North Dakota etc to rush across the border. I am sure someone would notice that.

Who and what would they fight? Theres really nothing here for the US Army to worry very much about, but if they do come up here and lay siege to CAF bases and stations it could potentially help with the military BMI problem. Although the Trudeau Kommisars are certain to eat some of the weaker ones to survive.
